Yeah this is what I was going to say that it seem like its bit more similar to south punjab but overall similarities are eye opening. It shouldnt be surprising though, expecting casteless society in this region was foolish. It just get less coverage because caste system in gangaland is much worse because there these marginalised communities like mussalis/watal are vast majority. Combined with religion that promote this.
I remember reading on internet how everyone in Kashmir is basically brahmin. Lol
I personally believe that even in central punjab also, the muslim rural society was organized in the same way as what it is seen in Kashmir valley and south punjab where "foreign" muslims such as peer/Syeds/Makhdooms/Mughals noble men were on the top of the hierarchy and the agriculturists were in the middle like peasants followed by Kammis which were followed by chmmar/chura types. However this order got disrupted in central punjab due to the rise of Sikhism and Sikh jatt rebellion against the status quo which resulted in the modern hierarchy where the agriculturist indigenous clans often descended from Sikhs came on the top instead of the erstwhile peer/Syeds/Makhdoom/Mughal/Central asian noble men enjoying the top of the hierarchy. In fact the Kashmir valley and south punjab rural societies are fossilized forms of what the rural central punjab society must have been before the rise of the sikhs.
