What's new

INS Vikramaditya was spied upon by NATO aircraft & ships

Because the US, like all carrier-operating navies, DOES enforce an exclusion-zone around their ACCs. If it was such a common occurrence such incidents wouldn't be news-worthy, would they?

Depends on what you mean by "news-worthy". You don't see this all over the evening news, or the headlines of national dailies, do you? You see it in a defence blog, then picked up by other defence enthusiasts.

The ploriferation of blogs and the internet has made the distinction between 'news' and 'information' non existent, and therefore terms like "news-worthy" don't mean the same thing anymore. If we are to judge the importance of events by their "news worthiness", and by that if you mean its appearance in blogs and other websites or even online pages of news channels, then the latest incidence of a celebrity's skirt moving a wee bit too high would be a hundred times more important.

Navies do snoop on the assets of other navies, and maintain a database of electronic and accoustic signatures. And buzzing by elint aircrafts is common on the high seas. There is nothing to be done about it, if it happens in international waters. If it was in our maritime zone or airspace, that is a different issue.

It's US vs Russki Game :P as usual . Why Indians are going haywire ? Are we not looking at US for our new AC system ?

We are friendly we both but this totally looks a case of regular snooping agents roaming on free water.

US snoops on India for same reasons the IAF and IN do not trust the US. You need to read up more to understand to what extend IAF and IN go to keep US out of Indian strategic matters before you attempt cheer leading for the US. Having a few exercises does not mean we are in bed with them. India will be hosting a few exercises with China too. It means squat.

The IN & the IAF are not in the trusting business. Of anyone. The point is not about American snooping, it is about snooping on the Vikramaditya. It is essentially pointless. I said that the Americans will get to see the Vikramaditya up close in an exercise quite soon, after all American carriers participate in these exercises quite regularly, those exercises being the largest that India carries out with any country.

If you can pull your head out of your *** you will see a bit more clearly.

Unnecessary and juvenile. Move on.

.

So as per your either the US is stupid to drop sonar buoys and attempt to to find out viki's EM signature and risk diplomatic incident ? (since they are going to get it anyway during the exercise)

Either that, or Indians are stupid enough to let the Americans get details of the Viki but the US does not trust the Indians to display such supidity.

So which is it ? ....or are you denying the whole thing ever happened ??

Third option is that you are more intelligent than the CIA or US Naval intelligence / NATO intelligence that ran the operation to gather intel on Vikramaditya. :D

Let us know, it would be most informative.

I said it was not very relevant. The ship was not part of the Indian navy when this incident happened & there is nothing to suggest that the P-3 C Orion in question was of the the U.S. navy. It is believed that it was one of the many NATO allies. Essentially the argument that the Americans were snooping is an unproven accusation. I said that the Americans had no specific reason, they can & will know more about this ship in due course. We are after all talking about an AC, not something that is particularly unknown. This seems, imo, more of a Russia-NATO thing than it is about snooping on an Indian ship.

LOL. The govt. of India did not think so. They have made a diplomatic protest to both NATO and the US

Do you know more than the govt. of India now ? :P

You can continue to be cheer leader for the US, but Indian govt. has made its displeasure quite clear. BTW its the US which controls and directs NATO. Nothing happens without the US first clearing it.

The whole world knows Viki is being built in Russia for India. For you to claim it was a Russia NATO thing is just smells of desperation. There are only a handful of non US AC in the world, and no one is going to mistake Viki for anything else.

And i am wonder....that P3C Orion came on top of that carrier and they even didn't know about it......where were their radars and all electronic systems......that means a plane can come on top of that carrier and drop the bombs to sink that without knowing the crew on board..........Is that a Really Aircraft carrier or its Iron and Steel floating on the water...

It is unlikely that all the Electronics systems were switched on when the ship was so vulnerable. Most of them would have been switched off as it was undergoing test in Russian waters.

Once the AC gets its full load of Aircraft and escort ships and submarines, then it would be operating under normal conditions.

Err... do you have a link for that? Protests on what grounds?

Without the U.S. clearing it? Seeing the U.S. hiding under the bed very night is not a panacea for what is thought of as cheerleading.

Still irrelevant. Read my complete posts. Desperation? What for? It doesn't matter who is building what for whom, it only becomes an IN ship after being commisioned. This is an incident from last year, hardly something earth shattering if no one even bothered about it for a year & odd.

India today says that the government sent photographs of the intrusion, including pictures of the sensor buoys, to the US Embassy in Moscow and NATO headquarters and have asked for their reply. That is the first step in escalation.

Clear pictures of US P-3C and NATO ship from Norway is what you are calling "US hiding under the bed" .........how much more shameless can you get ?

LOL. Is that your best defense ? That Viki was Russian till they handed it over to IN , so spying is OK ? Pathetic.

You should leave out your editioralisation of my comment, you are not the only one capable of using adjectives.

Escalation? Now? A year & odd later? I think not. Still haven't seen any official confirmation being reported anywhere.

Oooh...Norway......scary that.

Err...that would be international law. I said the supposed spying is irrelevant & overblown. As for the editoralisation.....usually used when one seems unable to make an argument without it. Not like I'm in need of any cerificates from you.
