After refit, Vikramaditya ready to join Navy
Vikramaditya, acquired from Russia for $2.3 billion, was commissioned into the Navy in November 2013 without the crucial air-defence systems.

Aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya will sail out of the harbour in Karwar after its first short refit and join the Navy in a week, Vice-Admiral P. Murugesan, Vice-Chief of the Naval Staff, said here on Tuesday.

He was briefing presspersons on a seminar, “Innovation and indigenisation — sailing towards self-reliance” being organised by the Navy on Thursday and Friday.

Vikramaditya, acquired from Russia for $2.3 billion, was commissioned into the Navy in November 2013 without the crucial air-defence systems. They are now being installed during the “guaranteed refit”, in addition to scheduled maintenance, by the original equipment manufacturer.

The Israeli-supplied Barak-1 point defence missile system and the Russian-origin AK-630 close-in weapon system, borrowed from a to-be-decommissioned Godavari-class ship, were installed on the carrier.

The carrier was originally scheduled to receive a long-range surface-to-air missile system under joint development with Israel. But delay in its development resulted in the carrier being inducted without its own air-defence cover.

Vice-Admiral Murugesan said a high-powered committee constituted to evaluate domestic shipyards for the Navy’s next line of submarines under Project 75I had completed its compliance checks.

“The report has been submitted to the Defence Ministry,” he said.

Tenders will be issued to the shortlisted shipyards once it is approved. Under Project 75I, estimated at over Rs. 50,000 crore, six conventional submarines are to be built by domestic shipyards with foreign collaboration.

of all arms of defence forces, Navy's modernization program seems most structured, systematic and running on time (barring Submarine delays). If the trend continues, Navy is likely to achieve its vision and goal of being true Blue navy.

The reason behind the same being the high indigenous content & active participation of domestic shipyards - All of Indian warships and submarines are being constructed in Indian shipyards only - BTW as far as Submarine delays are concerned - In the next 10 years we might be either launching or commissioning at least one submarine every year - 6 Scorpène SSK's and 4 Arihant SSBN's apart from Project 75I and Six new SSN's - it already started this year with the launch of INS Kalvari - IN's first Scorpène class SSK.

Which ship decommissioned is any know ???

INS Godavari - the lead ship of Godavari-class frigates will be decommissioned by the end of this year. The other two INS Ganga and INS Gomati will also follow in a couple of years.
INS Godavari (F20) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Commissioned in 1983 and is in the process of being decommissioned

INS Rajput (D51) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Commissioned in 1980 and is still in active service

How..........:o:.........I mean INS Rajput had spent much more time in active service than INS Godavari .....Then why INS Godavari will be decommissioned in the end of this year.....?...............o_O

That's because unlike the Army and air force, they don't keep changing their GSQRs at the drop of a hat!

INS Rajput is a guided-missile destroyer - won't be decommissioned anytime soon before P-15A Kolkata-class and P-15B Visakhapatnam class are commissioned - Rajput class have been heavily upgraded since their induction - they are armed with Brahmos supersonic missiles and even have the capability to carry Dhanush ballistic missiles - not the case with Godavari Class.

Thank baba Anthony for that...the disgusted look on arun Jaitley's face when he visited MDL docks was a clear indicator.

I heard the Project 75I is most probably, 8 in number and its the Type 214. 4 to be built by Private shipyards.

Not sure as right from the beginning Project 75I is reported to have 6 submarines only - Last year when the project got clearance from Defence Acquisition Council - it was reported for the acquisition of six conventional submarines only -

6 Made-in-India Submarines for Navy for 53,000 Crores

And recently when talks about issuing RFP's (request for proposal) came out - it was for "six submarines built over eight years" -

India to soon float tenders for six new submarines for navy | Zee News

The shipyards shortlisted by GoI and Indian Navy include -

-Mazagon Dock Limited
-Hindustan Shipyard Limited
-Cochin Shipyard Limited
-Pipavav and
-Larsen & Toubro

Three of them happen to be PSU's - two are private - it's an open tender - let's see who wins the same.

I like how Navy is efficiently using all of its equipment borrowing from godawri

What about Barak 8 ?

The real threat to Vikram is Exocet in possession with our enemy as Cheap Chinese crap like C - 802 is not a real threat (considering the INS Hanit incident) to the ship of this size.

There is no need to have such long range weapons systems on board a carrier- her escorts are meant to take care of any such long range threats, the carrier's CIWS will take care of anything that slips through the net.

I never believed the Viky was going to get the BARAK 8- this makes no sense.

Description of the complex as an example Test (boat pr.205PE):

1971 August 18 - target shooting La 17M works AK-630 radar MR-123 Speed - 230 m / s, the altitude - 1050 m. Opened fire on the slant range to the target at a distance of 5062 m 3800 m (proactively meeting point). A three stages - 32, 39 and 42 shots at intervals of 3 seconds. With a distance of 2220 m slant was open continuous fire (542 rds). Total shooting lasted 17 seconds, consumption of ammunition - 665 rds. The goal shocked and fell into the sea 10 km from the boat.

1972 August 22 - target shooting La 17M works AK-630 and AK-725 radar MR-123 Speed - 230 m / s, the altitude - 1,200 meters. The fire opened on the slant range to the target of approx. 5000 m at a distance of 3700 m (pre-empt the meeting point). A two-stage AC-630 - 40 shots and 44 (3 sec break), AK-725 - one of all 30 rds. After that, the system has failed power boats. The target has been broken (no longer to obey commands), and was finished off MiG-19.

As a result of the test was introduced operation of high-speed air targets - 4-5 bursts of 20-25 rounds with a maximum range at intervals of 3-5 seconds, with the transition to continuous light (400 rds.) At a distance most effective at.

The AK-630 and AK-725

Modifications :

AK-630 / A-213 (1976) - the basic model (see above).

AK-630M / 213M-A (1980) - in order to reduce the size of the installation has been designed with the option to install a round turret shop, the other characteristics similar to the AK-630. The prototype passed factory and field testing and put into production under drawings of the chief designer of the plant №535 in 1972. The state tests of the complex A-213M with FCS MR-123/176 were conducted in the Baltic Sea from 16 November to 7 December 1979 at the head Missile boats pr.1241.1 (factory №401). Installing adopted an order of the Commander of the Navy №0189 of 26 August 1980 under the name AK-630M.

AK-630M1 - version of the AK-630M with a gun GSH-6-30K increased reliability, the machine was designed to address the military industrial complex of the USSR №197 dated June 8, 1983 and in 1986 successfully passed factory tests. It is supposed to replace machines in the AK-630M.

AK-306 (1980) - The lite version of the AK-630 automatic air-cooled barrel and without radar guidance.

AK-630M1-2 "Roy" (1989) - version with two trunks placed vertically on the base of the AK-630M with guns GSH-6-30K.

SPAR "Dirk" / "Broadsword" - installations used machines AO-18 and ammunition from the AK-630.
