INS Vikramaditya: Mooring began testing the aircraft carrier INS Vikramaditya

From the above report it becomes very clear that the ship has been very substantially reworked. Usually steel renewal/replacement in jobs like this is not substantial; and is limited to areas where corrosion/wastage exceeds certain limits (determined by inspection and NDT).
While the report indicates that steel work has been largely confined to additional structural erection/fabrication and purpose-specific buttressing. The reports about equipment and electricals clearly show a huge renewal and rebuild. Which means that the vital equipment fitouts are all new and/or zero-digit on counters. Same for propulsion/generation equipment.
All in all, a major resurrection is under way. The IN will get what will be a majorly new ship.

A well written article indeed.

They say except the hull, which itself heavily modified, all other systems are completely new. This will add lots of punch to the Indian navy as force projecting instruments. Waiting for the launch.

All issues regarding delivery of Russian aircraft-carrying cruiser Admiral Gorshkov and nuclear-powered attack submarine Nerpa to India have been already settled, they will be handed over to the orderer within the period stipulated, said Mikhail Dmitriev, director of Federal Service for Military Technical Cooperation (FSMTC).

"We have arranged all issues. I think we'll manage to keep within time and cost limits. And, finally, we'll realize all plans", said he in the interview to Kommersant published on Thursday.

Answering the question when it is planned to deliver Admiral Gorshkov to Indian Navy, Dmitriev said: "By the end of 2012. That was stipulated in documents, and we're going to keep the term. The ship's trials are scheduled in 2011-2012".

Speaking of transfer of SSN Nerpa to Indian Navy, he said that "everything is ready, there's no problem".

"Now the matter is at final stage. There's no need for any additional works, maybe just the sub's interior painting and some other minor things. Indian crew has been working with Russian instructors for a long time, and executes a number of tasks. Neither Russian nor Indian partners have any concerns about it", said Mikhail Dmitriev.

Is there a reason why India didn;t opt for EMALS>.

Everything except the Hull OF THE SHIP WILL BE BRAND NEW

WELL THAT WAS ESSENTIAL COZ THE SHIP WILL SERVE FOR ATLEAST 25 YRS WITH THE INDIAN NAVY AND WILL SPEND 10 YRS AS THE FLEET FLAGSHIP
When the ship is delivered , its Hull will be 26 yrs old , but everyTHING from the Island to the Ski Jump and Aircraft Hanger and Lift will be Brand New
The ship would be capable to operate upto 30 Aircrafts comprising 16-20 Mig29K , 10 Helicopters

I expect INS Vikramaditya to remain in service till 2040

Its still little bit under testing phase and will be inducted only to Ford class carriers, when this ship was being built EMAL was not an option. and Americans wont allow Emals on a Russian Ship...
