imagine being in the 21st century and still looking upto a geographical feature for future. I mean what kinda statement isbthat for them people.

Some people have turned deserts to heaven, well maybe thats what god deemd you to be!

Ok. Then it's a huge risk to take for such project...

15 billion $ (if I am correct) is too big amount
Nope. Hydel power, flood control, and charging the river in dry season are the main benefits.

Plus, if its used for irrigation then it will create problems for agricultural lands further downstream, in Sindh for example.

Hydel power is ok. But you should know that solar electricity is cheaper these days than hydro.
Flood control is most valid point, but are there so frequent floods in Pakistan?
Downstream agriculture stabilization is a good point but for how many acres??

Imran khan nai kara kiya hai?

What southern Punjab and balochistan? Pat feeder and kachi canals can irrigate small part of bslochistan bas iskay siwa in rivers ka balochistan sa koi link nhi. And Punjab main north western Punjab like Bhakkar Khushab ko irrigate Kiya skta ha bas.
i was talking about stabilization of irrigation further downstream genius. and i have mentioned northern balochistan, not balochistan. itna ronay ki zarurat nahi. instead of wasting water you will have some in storage for use later on.

how is a dam going to be feed water to a river ? dams can store water. it is a lot of cheap electricity
What I meant was that it will fill itself up to its storage capacity from river indus as it's built on river indus and pass on the excess water in river indus as usual. It will also feed the river indus in dry months like winters when there is no excess water to pass on as the glaciers stop melting and input of water into river is restricted from the top.

We also need to build more canals and reservoirs across the country (especially in Balochistan).

Not a good idea in inner Balochistan, maybe near the coast only.

Last I remember Tarbela was used as a fishing ground. My uni was right next to it, ate many a freshwater fish from there.

Man I've always wanted to go fishing in Pakistan next time I'm there I'll be giving Tarbela a visit!

Tarbela is heavenly. You should. But it gets awfully hot in the summers. Don't know what's the procedure for visitors, my uni was right nextdoor to it so I had no problems.

Dams can disrupt the fisheries industry. That's my only concern with dams

This is the sole reason why the Civil- Military Establishment did not go ahead with the Kala Bagh Dam.

I dont personally agree with the stance of the establishment because I think there are more important things than Rahu Machli for eg. water security of Pakistan.

Why would that be bad? I reckon we should do whatever we can to provide water where ever possible which will not only bring more land under cultivation but its also a basic necessity

but are there so frequent floods in Pakistan?
When they do they are huge. 2010 floods effectively inundated the entire Indus riverine zone from north to 1,000 miles right south on the Arabian Sea. This dam will stabilize the zone.
