Bhasha is a primary storage reservoir. That is it will hold water on the upper Indus and when the system downstream is depleted it will release the water thus making sure other dams, barrages, canals have water all the time. Can Anyone Be Kind Enough To Explain How We Are Going To Take Canals Out of Bhasha
we wont..at this moment you still have water shortage DURING WINTER OFF PEAK SEASON..Can Anyone Be Kind Enough To Explain How We Are Going To Take Canals Out of Bhasha
or can make huge fisheries..Dams can disrupt the fisheries industry. That's my only concern with dams
Like I’m looking at studies I did on the Canadian system. They have issues maintaining their ecosystem. Plus Pakistan has the Indus River Dolphin but I don’t think it’ll be an issue hereor can make huge fisheries..
second is more likely in Pakistan with fluctuating water levels..look at tarbela for example
main issue in northern America was salmon & similar fish cant migrate upstream into fresh water..Like I’m looking at studies I did on the Canadian system. They have issues maintaining their ecosystem. Plus Pakistan has the Indus River Dolphin but I don’t think it’ll be an issue here
I guess you can breed fish in dams but is there an effect on the local ecosystem?
needs to first end this stupid practice of flood irrigationWe also need to build more canals and reservoirs across the country (especially in Balochistan).
needs to first end this stupid practice of flood irrigation
Afford? That not possible as the farmers can't afford to use modern irrigation equipment

Last I remember Tarbela was used as a fishing ground. My uni was right next to it, ate many a freshwater fish from there.
UNFORTUNATELY IN NAME OF "LACKING OF FUNDING" DAMS WERE COMPLETELY IGNORED..Two case studies for those who question viability of dams and their economic impact... Hoover and Aswan dam. Aswan dam alone added at least 4 percent points to Egypt's gdp, while Hoover not only irrigates million of acres it brought life in the desert i.e. Los Vegas and multiple smaller cities... I don't have figures to gauge it's impact but you can guess or research...
Peoples lives canbe changed for better in impoverished central Pakistan... So, be it Bhasha, Katzarah or Kalabag ... they'll forever change the fate of Pakistanis with cheap renewable energy, year round supply of water, agriculture or conversely protect from droughts and floods.
Big dams though are not substitutes for small local reservoirs which keep the water table high enough besides providing added capacity to store water.
On a side note didn't want to forget neolithic Q3-L275 perhaps the original inhabitants of ivc?
Just for those interested... with a very interesting map

Bhasha dam will feed the water into river indus as required...and canals will be fed that water from river indus accordingly from existing canal system. As river indus goes all to the length of country so almost all country will benefit. No Dam directly feeds water to canals or has any agricultural land nearby. Bhasha dam is in mountainous terrain you cant expect to crop anything out there.
