You didn't read the OP. It is part of their routine flying but they just time-shift it. and as far as security is concerned, as already replied.

It means you have no idea,..all these airplanes are equipped with night flying system..everything is through instruments and avionics / navigation system rather flying over a city in the night is safer than the day because no birds are flying, less air traffic.
