Indoneasia in $25 billion deal with France for Fighters and Subs

This means KFX is dead?
No.. KFX is still progressing well, Korea is more than capable to complete it on their own... But if what you are asking is whether Indonesian participation in KFX is dead, then the answer is... No, we are still in it and have recommitted to pay our share of the project cost..

Right, so french boycott by muslim coutries is no more relevant or it was jsut a hoax ?
25 bn deal is huge.
Can't comment for other countries, maybe they still are... but it's not happening here... there were initially a few calls for boycott from some of the more radical Muslim groups here, but they were just a very small minority and it quickly fades... and nothing more happens... IIRC the only response from our government was when our president delivered a formal statement disapproving of President Macron's speech and condemning the terrorist act in France.

Jokowi is the one that I see has the commitment to continue the program. This is why I hope for Korean to speed up the renegotiation process and accept Indonesian demand as soon as possible.

If Indo and Korean can achieve deal on KFX/IFX program, it will be hard to buy another fighter jet with this current administration and it will be even very hard with next administration as in 2026 KFX/IFX program is planned to have started the mass production stage inshaAllah and Indonesia has a law to forbid ordering foreign weapon that can be produced in the country.

This is why Indonesian official (Mindef official to be precise) is reported by Frenchs source as wanting to make a deal as soon as possible, although in my analyst will be unlikely to pass the Finance Ministry approval based on the calculation that I have posted in my earlier comments.

That's for sure! The USD 25B - 28B cost is probably the estimated total value if we take the whole package (jets/ships/subs/missiles/etc) as mentioned in the defenseworld article... However we don't know yet the actual price tag for the individual items on offer, or even what items we will eventually procure (if any)...

What surprises a lot of defense enthusiasts in Indonesia is actually the statement by the French defense minister that the deal for the Rafales is not only progressing smoothly but that it is actually already in advanced stage of negotiations! :woot: It's unexpected since the F-16V has always been seen as the top dog in this competition while the Rafale was considered more of a sideshow... even though we are aware that our defense minister has been windows shopping for other options for some time now.

And additionally, adding to the excitement, is the recent news that negotiations for the purchase of the 15 ex-Austrian Typhoons is also progressing well and is now already in the technical details stage of negotiations... So does this means we will be purchasing both...? also what about the F-16Vs.. will it be totally dropped? Or perhaps all of these is just an effort to pressure the US to give us more favorable terms for the Viper purchase..? or maybe even to allow us to get F-15s..?

Totally interesting times ahead for Indonesian military enthusiasts...!

Too many kind of fighter, will be challenge for the spare parts/maintenance.

Austria Tyhphoon is trance 1, not with AESA radar and most advance EW system. I think we better go for F-16V.

KFX won't be ready in next 10 years.

Lol! Indeed... seems like we are trying to compete with India or Egypt for the title of an AF with the most diverse jet fighter ecosystem..

That being said, I believe some of the considerations for Austrian Typhoon are as follows :
- immediate availability (compared to waiting for newly builds)
- in good condition (no need for heavy refurb like ex AMARG F-16s)
- relatively low flight hours
- relatively advanced (compared to existing fighters in InAF fleet)
- price is expected to be... "very friendly" (assumption due to Austria seems so intent on getting rid of it).
- Can also use (at least some of) existing F-16 armaments.

I believe if the deal goes thru, Typhoons will be used for our immediate needs while we wait for the newly build fighters to come (whatever it may be)..

Note that it seems we have also been offered used RNoAF F-16s.. but those are very old with very high flighthours... Another offer is to get ex AMARG F-16s, these are slightly younger, but still requires extensive refurb which will take years to complete (iirc it takes about 3 years for our previous batch of used F-16s to arrive)..
