I always hear this from Indians.

"After 20 more years, India will be the third largest economy in Earth!"

Ummm... so what? Don't need to wait 20 years, China is already the second largest economy on Earth. And we are nowhere close to being a superpower.

Being the 2nd largest economy for several decades, didn't make Japan a superpower.

Then how will India become a superpower, when they are praying that after 20 more years, they "might" have the 3rd largest economy?

China is clearly not a superpower. Having the 2nd largest economy does not make anyone a superpower.

Even if China ever becomes the #1 largest economy, we still might not be a superpower.

Who cares about being a "superpower" anyway, China won't go down the same path as America did.

India should think about being a superpower until after 2050.

Probably you are right.
China and India will be only nations where they huge armies, huge economies, but with 150 000 000 people below poverty line in China and 450 000 000 below poverty line in India.

China is a 3rd world and a developing nation, no question about that. In fact, we say this so often that people think we are making excuses for getting a break on carbon emissions.

Anyway, we are both developing countries... but according to The Economist... India is still 40 years behind China in terms of social indicators.

People who have no ability to comprehend an article will continue to post things that is related to poverty etc.
Try to see what the author says. He does not say anything about India being a superpower. Please note that he is not an Indian. Get a life and dont derail a thread with the usual posts that have got posted n number of times. Waste of bandwidth I would say. No one denies poverty in India and no one says India does not have the potential to remove its short comings.
