India's military might on show this Republic Day

India is all set to show its might and power to the world this Republic Day on Jan 26. The R-day parade will definitely be a proud moment for Indians across the globe when India showcases its various achievements in the area of defence technology, including the latest indigenously-developed Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) that debuted in the skies recently.

The trainer version of the LCA will be displayed on a tableau at the parade. The BrahMos cruise missile will also be displayed in all its might. The missile is a Indo-Russian joint venture that has a target range of 290 km and is said to be only one of its kind that can touch supersonic speed up to Mach-3 (three times the speed of sound).

India's military might will be witnessed in full splendour by the President, Prime Minister, and Ministers in the government apart from other dignitaries. The Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono will be the Chief Guest in this years Republic Day.

The Indian Air Force will show its strength with a 25-aircraft fly past, including front line Sukhois, Jaguars and MiG-29s that will blaze the skies this year. The army will join in with three indigenous 'Dhruv' Advanced Light Helicopters (ALHs) from its aviation wing as well.

"Marching contingents on the Rajpath would include mounted troops from 61 Cavalry, mechanised columns and eight regiments of the army, navy, air force, coast guard and other paramilitary forces," the parade's second-in-command and Deputy General Officer Commanding of Army's Delhi Area Brigadier Kuldeep Singh said. The parade commander will be the Delhi Area General Officer Commanding Major General Manvendra Singh.

The parade will begin with the national salute and awarding of the Ashok Chakra to Major Laishram Jyotin Singh, who lost his life fighting a suicide bomber in the Indian Embassy, Kabul. "The parade would begin with the three Param Vir Chakra awardees marching on Rajpath, followed by the mounted cavalry troops, mechanised columns and other marching contingents," Colonel AS Mahela said while briefing the media on the parade.

India's military might is for show and bluster only. With significant amount is being diverted from defence budget for republic day parade,do we really need this pomp show?

Is the Republic Day parade still relevant?

Do we need annual Republic Day parade?

the cost of the whole operation is mind boggling. A substantial proportion of the armed forces budget is diverted from November 1 onwards towards preparing for the mammoth exercise. Beginning January, the Delhi Police is focused on the parade and not the city's law and order. On D Day, 196 companies of the Delhi Police and 55 companies of central paramilitary forces, consisting of some 35,000 policemen, are on duty. As well as some 800 commandos.

Cant People care to Spend a Portion of there Tax Money For those, Who gave up there Lives For a Family unknown to Him/her??

Republic Days Are Not Meant to Showcase the Military Muscle, Military Muscles can be Showcased through war/War Games... Republic Day Parade to Create Awareness Among Public that "The Days Have Not Gone where Unknown People Sacrifice for there Brothers/Sisters Living in the Country, The Whole Contingent Marching here Would Be at Your Rescue one day "

You know something, Govt spends More for Union Ministers to Organize a Speech anywhere In the Country...

If this money is directly spent on those families then its worth it than having such a pomp show.Everyone knows about how those families of kargil martyrs were treated or the families of parliament attack had to return their medals. This pomp show is not for such families but is for the political class.

Oh God, do You even Know what PF and Pension Arriers are?? The Armed Forces Get more than any other Institution, And they can Also place a Nominee like No Others can , and Govt Declares PF along with The gratitude payment If Martyred and If retired He gets PF along with the Pension which Goes In Lakhs of Rupees... Other than that State Govt declares Some amount for the Soldiers Family Residing in the State which Would Benefit them....

Apart from All of It Goes Free Allotment of House to the martyrs of Kargil war, And Some are cheated by the Politicians and Goes on air saying Govt does nothing for its Martyrs, Which infact is not 1/10th of what Govt Indirectly arranges for them and there family...
