What's new

India's iPad challenger sold out, but creates controversy too!

I hope you know how corporate mergers and takeovers work.

Google bought YouTube. YouTube wasn't making a loss or wasn't outdate in anyway, we all know that .

AMD was the one in loss, took over ATI..........

Microsoft took over the companies Rare and Canesta to use technology in Kinect......

So many more cases out there. Google it.

...and the Indian company...doesn't have a unique design...same old Tablets and a lil tweak here and a lil there.....a nice name for a cheaper knock-off.

Penumbra, I take it you are slating the Adam just because its designed by Indians for if you weren't you would have known that apart from a better processor and graphics than the Ipad, what makes this tablet different to the 'cheap Chinese knockoffs' is its display which uses e-ink technology (anyone who owns a Kindle will know what I am talking about). For many like me who hate the eerie glow of computer screens, the Adam will be a godsend..

Now go and find me a cheap Chinese tablet with a display that is not backlit and does not cost more than an Ipad..

You making a career in business marketing doesn't mean shyt, when you cannot even read what the guy i was referring to wrote.

He said companies are taken over when they make a loss.....what kind of idiotic statement is that?

There have been companies that were taken over in loss and returned profitable, but just saying that as a general conclusion is pretty far fetched.

Rest i see you Indian fellow members have taken over to make this into flame war....comparing Indian tech with Chinese.....when majority of world tech companies manufacture their products in China, not India.

Go ahead...troll
And according to you the planet is comprised of consumers looking at Indian tech one way and chinese tech another way and american tech in another way. And sitting there you could talk about uniqueness of product and what not...hail you all knowing duchebag- there is something called marketing and if they've made their product one way that's coz they've made the way a group of consumers want it and trust me if they're taking on competition- win or lose they at least know what they're doing. Now you go ahead and troll.

It'll be great if our manufacturing sector especially Electronics get a boost rather than having them imported from China(IIUC). China imports devastated local Electronics Industry decade back itself.

Notion Ink Adam Garnering Good Vibes and Notices at CES 2011

It may still be too early to tell but the Notion Ink Adam seems to have run the gauntlet of bloggers and press at CES 2011 and come out the other side in very good shape. By and large the coverage I’ve seen indicates that folks are very impressed with what they are seeing from Notion Ink.

Remember, Notion Ink has been playing this game differently on all levels, from the hardware design to the Eden UI, to the PR. They’ve been slowly teasing since last January at CES, and they’ve ratcheted the teasing up heading into this year’s show. They took some knocks for some early pre-order difficulties and because folks hadn’t seen anything for real there were even whispers of vapor ware emerging out there.

But that seems to be behind them. One other thing of note here. While we’ve been covering a host of Tablets and Tablet wanna-be’s, out logs indicate that the Notion Ink Adam has quite a bit of interest. In fact, it is one of the leading searches bringing folks here to GBM.

I’ve already linked to some excellent coverage from Slashgear. Engadget has also done some excellent work on this device here, and they too seem quite impressed.

Notion Ink Adam: Could mystery feature be a radio?

January 7, 2011 | Debbie Turner

News from CES 2011 continues to flood in and one of the products receiving rave reviews is the Notion Ink Adam tablet, the enigmatic device that has now finally been seen in the open. Yesterday we brought you news of a hands-on preview and it certainly seems impressive and now we have news about a so-called mystery feature.

Previously there had been much talk about this mystery feature and on an earlier blog post Rohan Shravan of Notion Ink had said that the mystery feature was a software update initiated every 2 weeks, according to Go Rumors. However Matt Burns over on Crunchgear reports that the secret feature has been revealed as a radio.

Crunchgear was in discussion with Shravan himself at CES and he simply came out with the answer of a radio which comes by the way of a chip replacement. Warner Crocker on GottaBeMobile also writes about the many positive notices about the Notion Ink Adam and gives some of the background to this groundbreaking new tablet.

What are your thoughts on the Adam and do you think there’s still a possibility of another mystery feature? We’d welcome your thoughts on this so please do send us your comments.

I’m pulling for one 10-inch Android tablet in particular: the Adam, produced by a new startup named Notion Ink. They’ve come up with a highly practical design that moves in its own direction and solves some problems that other makers seem to have ignored (such as the limited utility of a camera that can only aim straight up and away from the screen). They’ve enhanced Android with “Eden,” their own multipaneled user interface. And the Adam uses a new transflective LCD technology that keeps the screen readable even in bright outdoor light. The Pixel Qi display also saves power, by turning off the backlighting when the room’s ambient light is sufficient.

I’m not the only observer who’s enthusiastic about the Adam. There’s a simple reason for that: Notion Ink has given me something to be enthusiastic about. Via their blog, the company has been refreshingly open about the development process. They aren’t just spitting out press releases and hosting stiff, executive photo ops: they’re showing full walkthroughs of the hardware and software as it’s being developed.

And holy jumping Zarquon on a unicycle: they’ve actually got a price in mind: the 10-inch Adam will be available in multiple configurations starting at $375. There’s enough air between that price and the $499 minimum iPad price to present no pricing obstacles for the thing.

(See, Verizon? T-Mobile? Acer? ASUS? Sprint? It’s not that hard.)

There’s still no release date for the Adam. But Notion Ink has been happily showing off a highly-functional unit to everyone with a working phone camera, judging from all of the online videos from CES.
