What's new

India's First Scorpène-Class Diesel-Electric Attack Submarine INS Kalvari Rolled Out!

Its a shitty sub, China need to fear only the Chakra. The scorpenes may be new but they are armed with bullshit for weapons. But these are still a threat to Pakistan.
France TOT you Scorpene? Pakistan will get 8 subs from China, still Scorpene is horrible rival to deal with. Actually we don't fear Chakra, it's old tech.

Can K4 and K15 be fired from this one ? What are the weapons?

Wow, Chakra is an old technology!!!!!!???????. It seems that you have too much knowledge of submarine technology.

LOL, Chakra's are quieter than NATO subs and carry a weapons compliment to flatten an entire CBG - old tech my foot. Scorpene is a new boat with shitty weapons. Unless India figures out an alternative to the Exocet that we can use, its pretty useless and cant be used for anything more than torpedo wars.

No, though their were plans to install the K-15 and BrahMos in the fifth and sixth Scorpene class submarines which were later cancelled after the Indian Navy decided to equip these subs with air independent propulsion (AIP), thus extending the submarine to its maximum length.

The Scorpene attack submarine can carry 18 torpedoes and missiles or 30 mines. It is equipped with six bow-located 21in torpedo tubes providing salvo launch capability. The submarine's weapons include anti-ship and anti-submarine torpedoes and anti-surface missiles. The handling and loading of weapons is automated.

India also placed an order for 36 MBDA SM-39 Exocet anti-ship missiles to arm the submarines. The six torpedo tubes are capable of firing SM-39 Exocet anti-ship missiles, which have a range of 50km.

Exocet is a deadly missile and have a giant kill of british warship at its name.

There were never any plans to put Bramhos or K 15 in Scorpene. The VLS just wont fit.

The Exocet is a 50 year old missile that can be beaten by even the most basic CIWS. Lets get real, the scorpene does not have a good weapons compliment. We got conned.

The IN doctrine will basically put the Scorpenes as the first line of defence against enemy sub fleet to engage them in a torpedo battle.

Exocet is a deadly missile and have a giant kill of british warship at its name.

Yes in 1982. This is 2015!

The Exocet was designed in the 1960's. Inservice from the late sixties. Calling it deadly is a true LMFAO moment.

You don't know how many blocks Exocet have ?
First block produced & latest block produced are same due to they use same name ?

Yes HMS Sheffield.

Of course they use they same name. However, only guidance systems have changed.

Exocet does not have any countermeasures, it is still woefully slow as it is subsonic. It cannot do terminal maneuvers. Its basically a very outdated missile. I cannot think of a single CIWS system that will not cut it into peices way before it comes close to any ship.

Subsonic does not mean outdated but it is not good as Brahmos but neither as heavy & expensive.

my question is regarding SM-39 though it seems tobe a compact and light missile its range (50 Km) is pretty low as per owr requirements ......is that all ? and which block it is ?

can some one tell me the range of black shark torpedoes ?

thanks in advance

As per MBDA site information, Exocet MM40 Block 3 has an effective operational range of 200 km.s
Missile systems, defence systems - MBDA missiles

50 kms.
BlackShark
i know that range of missile sir but that is ship or surface launched variants range .... what is the range of sub launched variant and which block we are buying and if possible at what range & rate and what are the compition's rate of simillar wepons avilable on the market

Thats why is said, the scorpene will work for offence against Pakistani subs, but really does not have the teeth to fight Chinese subs or surface fleets.

Subsonic means outdated for todays CIWS that are capable of shooting down supersonic anti ship missiles with countermeasures and maneuvering terminal stages. The Exocet has none of these.

Having dissed the scorpene, all hope is not lost. Over the next decade the IN has to find alternate weapons systems to make this boat worth the tall sticker price. We have to replace the Exocet with a more capable anti ship missile (maybe the bramhos mini may fit the bill if it is made compact enough)
