India's ASTRA BVRAAM Successfully Testfired From IAF Flanker

That could work but th
en it has no derivatives open for us to tear apart and re-engineer.

I am willing to accept @sandy_3126's view on this, IF we opened one up and went as far as changing the whole basic parameters of the engine then yes a Russian engine with an altered SFC (due to change in the SRF fuel curve) can power the engine. In which case India would have just reverse engineered or altered its first engine, that or the Russians allowed us to. If @Indo-guy asserts that the above is the case then upon verification with the next NOTAM he would be correct.

But Sandy will have to admit, we'd be sitting on an engine with quite altered specific parameters.

No one's stated that laghu shakti was the engine in question, but that given its SFC and thrust it would be similar to the engine on the Nirbhay. Refer to post to He-man.
Boss it's not as massive as you are making it sound, btw I think we should drop this topic. Let the specs come in the public sphere.

i am not saying we went chinese way but bought the engines off shelf

Itti lambi challang, it's not in production, the tooling won't be set up at this stage... and I doubt anything mammoth is needed for this.

Now for the operating map, of the engine, usually a based on given i/p aaa system balance point software is made to simulate the loading conditions, so drdo would have to change tweak that.

The software changes would be easy enough but unless the Russians went beyond M-TOT, way beyond it, it would take us as long as building an engine to alter it..ok not as much but quite close.

i am not saying we went chinese way but bought the engines off shelf

Then the engines would be cannibalized.

.
Excatly ! and @Dillinger is claiming that GTRE handed over turbofan engine ...the same year when he gave that interview claiming that there is no Turbofan engine under development .

Imagine DRDO missing opportunity to boast indigenous engine and rather make humiliating admission that we are using imported engine for Nirbhay missile .

thats plain fucking impossible:coffee:

Kya saas bahu kar rah hai.... chod na

@Indo-guy If Sandy's stating that we can successfully alter SFR parameters and tweak the russian engine sufficiently then I admit that a Russian engine can power the Nirbhay to accepted performance parameters.

The above for @he-man..umm..everyone else..

If Dr Avinash Chander made tantalizing acceptance - that too self volunteered one that Nirbhay is using imported turbofan.

There must be reasons to do so .

May be as @Omega007 has suggested we have initiated parallel programme to develop engine for Nirbhay .

because being several folds cheaper than Brahmos ...once operational Nirbhay will be inducted in very large numbers.

and we can't possibly import such large number of engines for a nuclear capable missile with range of 1000- 1200 km ....

I am not stating anything, i will blissfully invoke law of total ambiguity! :)

Well its a cogent explanation, the Russians will not tweak a few engines for us given that it would not be economical for them while we use them for tests. So us tweaking an engine with permission makes sense, specially when the relevant details are provided.

Thanks for accepting .

If the relevant technical details are provided to fill the gap and address my point on the SFC of current engines on offer in their original form then of course I will accept it as a good explanation and as an argument with a high chance of being true as opposed to mine. Even I can't argue against the facts of the science of physics.

saale sab maidan chood ke bhag rahe hain.....lol
:rofl::rofl::omghaha:

@vostok
any idea on the topic buddy??

whats the turbofan powering nirbhay?

Russia can probabaly never explicitly say that it provided turbofan engine for Nirbhay.

For it will be in clear violation of MTCR.

This is one of those major strategic programme where Russia's contribution will always remain underestimated and unknown .

Same role Russia played in initiating india in Cryogenic technology ...similar role it seems to have played in Turbofan technology .

There were reports of india having purchased few turbofan engines from Russia in past .

exact number of engines and specs of engine will perhaps always remain closely guarded secret .
