London: Leading defence and aeronautical firms of the West are reportedly worried over the success of the Tejas Trainer Jet, especially as India is expected to bag the first contracts for the trainer jet from Sri Lanka and Egypt.

The Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) is a supersonic, single-seat, single-engine multirole light fighter aircraft, which has been under development for the past three decades.

It has been co-developed by the Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) in cooperation with the Bengaluru-based Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).

The Sri Lanka Air Force (SLAF) is reportedly looking to procure 18 to 24 new fighter aircraft to replace its obsolete fleet of Chinese license-built MIG-21 by 2017, and had recently rejected Pakistan`s JF-17 aircraft built with Chinese help.

On the other hand, Egypt has also shown some interest in procuring the Tejas, though it had last year signed a contract to buy 24 Rafale fighter jets from France.

According to the web site www.dailymirror.lk, both Colombo and Cairo are said to be interested in purchasing the current version of the aircraft.

Either the Indians have moved to Mars or the rest of us live on a different planet.

If the indians say it is a success then who are we to say or think otherwise. The likes of MiG, Sukhoi, Boeing, Lockheed Martin, Northrop, BAE have had it.
Well you can't beat 30 year old experience, however it's another matter most aircraft will be near retirement after this period.

The western supplies have nothing to worry because any time they can pull out the supplies...this article is more like a warning that look we are getting worried..and now we may start thinking for an action..plain and simple..

the current version of the aircraft is not even ready for mass production..and on top of that..these buyers will need to resolve multiple issues with engine and avionics suppliers getting clearance...

I am not surprised by the media sensationalism. Tejas no matter labelled a failure or envy to many is here to stay .Its a testimony of precise Indian Engineering and a product that took Indian Aeronautics industry to new heights. The project could have been managed well on the administrative end but on the technical side, its a pure pride flying high.

@Windjammer I don't know about the other's but you surely have moved to the Mars.

Why crying for Indian Media, which is taking reference from the londonmirror.lk. Look what you have posted but fail to read yourself. So instead of making fun of zee news or Indian Media, why don't you ask this question from londonmirror. :P

I actually saw Mr. Lockheed Martin the other day and he was sweating

Bragging is in the blood of Indian. No doubt about that. Prepare for news like LCA can compete with F-22 raptor and Indian aeronautical technology is superior than US.

no wonder Western F-35 project failed and now the worried west is lining up to procure Tejas after its startling performance in Bahrain.

even French are trying to get rid of their Rafales and will replace them with Tejas

Progress in backward direction is called ''Retardation'' .........................:pop:

I was being polite and cautious without provoking too many Indians. Knowing Indian thought process, they will move heaven and earth in proving that retardation is actually a positive thing.

Going by article, they are selling their Tejas as trainers, just like our K8s or British Hawks. I would have a chuckle if the Srilankans buy Tejas as their pilot trainers for conversions to the Jf-17s into their combat squadrons.

Why not even without stealth feature Tejas can't be tracked on radar and reason you know .... once my little cousine ask me what kind of missile JF-17 use against Tejas in war situation i replied air to ground.

Dear lord, it's worse than i imagined, you will find that the news wasn't carried by no London Mirror but something more closer to your home....pretty desperate measures to say the least, and i thought Martians were supposed to be intelligent. :D
