Attack on Army Convoy in Manipur

An Army vehicle convoy was ambushed by well-armed terrorists in general area Parlon in Chandel District / Manipur on 4th June 2015. The incident resulted in 18 fatal and 15 non-fatal Army casualties. Two terrorists were killed in retaliatory fire and one AK 47 Rifle was recovered.

The Indo-Myanmar border is rugged and densely forested. The rugged terrain and prevailing trans-border Free Movement Regime are being exploited by the terrorists due to which monitoring of their cross border movement and activities is extremely challenging.

Army is fully alive to the prevailing complex challenges and accordingly surgical intelligence based Counter Terrorism operations are being conducted to neutralize the terrorists.

The intelligence grid has been revitalised. Efforts have been made for seamless interface amongst all intelligence agencies and units conducting Counter Terrorism operations so as to collate, analyse and disseminate intelligence in a timely manner.

This information was given by Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Shri Ravi Prakash Verma in Rajya Sabha today.

NSCN-K stationed groups of militants in Nagaland, Arunachal | Zee News

New Delhi: Naga insurgent group NSCN-K has stationed small groups of its cadres at various strategic locations in Nagaland and Arunachal Pradesh, Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.


"Most of these groups have sneaked into Indian territory from across the Indo-Myanmar border," Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju said in reply to a written question.

Rijiju said the central government is maintaining close and continuous coordination with the states.

Efforts of the state governments, which are primarily responsible for ensuring public order and security in these areas, are supplemented by the central government through various measures such as deployment of additional central forces, he said.

NSCN-K was responsible for the killing of 18 Indian Army soldiers in Manipur's Chandel district last month. After the incident, Indian Army commandos carried out strike on the camps of militants inside Myanmar.

Kohima: Security forces have averted major terror strikes in four northeastern states planned jointly by militant outfits NSCN-K and ULFA-I, an official said on Wednesday.


Quoting intelligence reports, Lt Col Shailesh, spokesperson for the Inspector General Assam Rifles (North), said rebels of the National Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang (NSCN-K) and the United Liberation Front of Asom-Independent (ULFA-I) had plans to carry out terror strikes in Nagaland, Manipur, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh.

The rebel groups have united under the banner of the United National Liberation Front of West South East Asia (UNLFWSEA).

"UNLFWSEA is intending to launch a number of attacks in Nagaland, Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh during and before Independence Day. All citizens are advised to be careful, and should immediately report any suspicious items found lying unattended at any place to police and the security forces," the spokesperson said in a press communique.

He said that in the past few months, a number of highly destructive radio-controlled explosive devices have been smuggled into Nagaland from Myanmar, in a bid to target the districts of Dimapur, Kohima, Wokha, Mokokchung, Mon and Tuensang, "with the aim of creating fear psychosis".

He said the recovery of explosives and two military grade anti-tank mines in the jungles of Polubadze mountain in Nagaland on Tuesday confirmed the nefarious designs of the militants.

The spokesperson said the NSCN-K was "misguiding Naga youths to resort to violence against their own brethren".

He assured the people that the security forces will continue to work towards ensuring peace in the region.

Army, Police joint team arrests suspected KLO terrorist | Zee News

Kokrajhar: Acting on specific intelligence, the Army and Assam Police on Thursday arrested a suspected Kamtapur Liberation Oragnisation (KLO) terrorist in a joint operation.

The operation was conducted in Jaldoba in Kokrajhar district in the wee hours of today.

One 9-mm pistol, two hand grenades and some live rounds were recovered from the arrested terrorist, Army sources said.

Meanwhile, a joint team of Army and police launched an operation in Chapar in Dhubri district.

A member of the Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) was arrested. One 9-mm pistol, one .22-mm rifle, 2.75 kg of TNT, 10 electric detonators and some live rounds were recovered from the arrested, the sources said.

Killing of Soldiers by Militants

The Army has lodged a FIR in the case and the National investigation Agency (NIA) is investigating the incident.

Efforts have been made for seamless interface amongst all intelligence agencies and units conducting Counter Terrorism operations so as to collate, analyse and disseminate intelligence in a timely manner.Surgical intelligence based operations were conducted along Indo-Myanmar border to counter the planned attack by terrorists and significant casualities were inflicted on them.

The issue of alleged presence of Indian Insurgent Groups in Myanmar are regularly taken up with the Government of Myanmar. The issue was again taken up with the Government of Myanmar, including at the highest level in June, 2015. Government of Myanmar has reiterated its assurance that its territory would not be allowed to be used for activities inimical to India.

This information was given by Defence Minister Shri Manohar Parrikar in a written reply to Shri Adhalrao Patil Shivajirao and others in Lok Sabha today.

Red alert issued in Assam following terror attack in Punjab | Zee News

Guwahati: A red alert has been issued across Assam following a terror attack in Gurudaspur district of Punjab, Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi said on Monday.

"The Punjab attack is very unfortunate and we condemn it. We have issued a red alert across the state following the attack," Gogoi told a press conference here.

Talking about terror outfits in the state, he said there were anti-social elements present and they kept trying to create disturbance.

"ULFA, NDFB, Jehadis - all are trying to disturb the peace and development of the state. However, we have been able to control them successfully. We have sought more central forces to better manage the law and order situation," Gogoi said.

Asked about the presence of Islamic State militants in Assam, the chief minister said that though they had sneaked into the state, they did not pose a threat yet.

"They have not become a threat yet in Assam. IS is currently present in every state of the country," he said.

Gogoi also turned down the allegation that madrassas in the state had any link with jehadi elements.

Heavily-armed militants in army uniform today sprayed bullets on a moving bus and stormed a police station, killing six persons, including an SP, and injuring eight others in Gurdaspur bordering Pakistan.

Militant arrested from Dhubri - The Hindu
A Muslim United Liberation Tigers of Assam (MULTA) militant was arrested by a joint team of the Army and the Assam Police from Dhubri district.

“In a joint operation with the Police, the Army apprehended one MULTA terrorist on July 25,” a Defence spokesperson said in an official release.

Based on specific intelligence, the Army had launched an operation and apprehended the militant, identified as Shah Alam, he said.

“He was actively involved in extortion, kidnapping, smuggling of arms, ammunition and fake Indian currency,” the spokesperson said.

A revolver and some live ammunition were recovered from the terrorist, he added.

Assam: Three KPLT militants killed in encounter | Zee News

Guwahati: At least three Karbi People's Liberation Tiger (KPLT) militants, including an 'operational commander', were killed on Wednesday in an encounter and a training camp of the outfit was busted in Karbi Anglong district by a joint team of Army and Assam police.

"In a major breakthrough, the Army today busted a large training camp and killed three hardcore militants belonging to KPLT in a fierce gun battle near Duni Tokbi Gaon in Karbi Anglong district during a joint operation with the Assam Police," an Army spokesperson said in a statement.

Army troops of the Red Horn Division had launched the operation on a specific information about the presence of militants in the area, he added.

"The militants who were hiding opened fire on the search parties and tried to flee. However, the security forces plugged the escape routes and engaged the militants," the spokesperson said.

Security forces busted a well concealed and stocked hideout and also recovered a "massive' cache of arms, ammunition and "warlike stores", including one AK series rifle, two pistols, six bags and a number of documents, he added.

The spokesperson said the slain militants included an operational commander of KPLT, who was also the 'sergeant major' of the unified command of KPLT and United Peoples Liberation Front, he said.

"The successful operation is a severe setback to the militants and their designs to carry out subversive activities, especially in Karbi Anglong district," the Army spokesperson added.

After border ''revenge'' mission, soldiers complained about leeches: Parrikar | Zee News

Panaji: Indian soldiers, who had gone on a mission to track militants responsible for the killing of 18 Dogra Regiment soldiers near the Manipur border last month, came back unhurt - except from leech attacks in the jungle, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said on Saturday.

"Some days back there was an operation on the border. 18 soldiers of the 6 Dogra Regiment were attacked by terrorists and were martyred. In the revenge (mission), not a single soldier was injured. But two to three came to me with complaints that they were attacked by leeches while travelling through the jungles," he said at a all-Goa BJP workers meeting here,

On the operation, Parrikar said: "As defence minister you have to shut the mouth. But because the mouth is closed, does not mean you have cannot punch. We have exacted appropriate revenge."

The former Goa chief minister also used the leech attack incident to attack the Congress, alleging their effect on Goa and its development had also been "leech-like".

"Goa was also plagued by the leech-like Congress," he said.

The secret mission which resulted in the killing of several members of the Nationalist Socialist Council of Nagaland-Khaplang, which was responsible for carrying out the attack on the Dogra Regiment soldiers, had created controversy, after Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Rajyavardhan Rathore said that the surgical strike was carried out in Myanmar.

The Myanmar government subsequently denied the claim.

TLA militant apprehended in Assam | Zee News

Morigaon (Assam): A hardcore militant of the Tiwa Liberation Army (TLA) was apprehended by the local people and then arrested by the police in Assam's Morigaon district, police said on Monday.

The militant had come last night to Nellie Bazar to serve extortion notes to businessmen in the area and had demanded Rs five lakh from a pharmacy owner, Morigaon Superintendent of Police Ainul Haque said.

The local people apprehended the militant who fired in air in a bid to escape but the police and security forces rushed to the spot and arrested him.

An Italian pistol and several rounds of ammunition were recovered from the militant, Haque said.

TLA is a newly formed militant outfit active in Central Assam areas.

Two Bangladesh-trained militants surrender in Tripura | Zee News

Agartala: Two Bangladesh-trained extremists surrendered to Tripura Police with Chinese-made arms and ammunition, police said here on Wednesday.


Police spokesman Uttam Kumar Bhowmik said the two top National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) militants -- Sunil Mohan Tripura, 35, and Jatanjoy Tripura, 36, -- recently fled from their Bangladeshi hideout and crossed over to Tripura.

The guerrillas surrendered their Chinese-made arms and ammunition to Tripura Police`s Director General K. Nagaraj on Tuesday night.

Members of NLFT and All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) have taken shelter and arms training in different hideouts and covert camps in various parts of Bangladesh, which shares an 856-km border with Tripura.

Both outfits, banned in 1997 by the union home ministry, advocate secession of Tripura from India. But as most ATTF cadres have surrendered, the group is almost non-existent now.

Officials of Tripura and union home ministry held two rounds of talks recently with the NLFT after the rebel group expressed its willingness to hold peace talks with the government.

Rifles seized in Mizoram | Zee News

Aizawl: In a joint operation, the Mizoram Police and Assam Rifles personnel seized two M-3 rifles and three magazines at Mizoram-Manipur-Myanmar border Hnahlan village on Friday, police said.

Police said that Chingsianpianga (36) of Darkhai village, Myanmar was arrested in this connection and a case was filed against the latter at Champhai police station where he was being detained.

Interrogations revealed that the arms were smuggled from Myanmar.

Two hardcore NDFB(S) militants and a MTFA ultra nabbed in Assam - The Economic Times

GUWAHATI: Two hardcore NDFB(S) militants and a Muslim Tiger Force of Assam ( MTFA) ultra have been apprehended by security forces in two separate incidents in Assam today.

Acting on specific information, army and police personnel launched a joint operation in Chirang district and apprehended two hadrcore NDFB(S) militants, a defence spokesman said here today.

The militants have been identified as Philip Basumatary alias B Phangka and Bipin Brahma alias B Bindw.

A 7.62 mm pistol, some ammunition and a grenade were also recovered from the two militants.

In another incident, a joint team of the police and army nabbed a Muslim Tiger Force of Assam (MTFA) militant during an operation in Fakiragram area of Kokrajhar district.

The militant has been identified as Mominul Ali and a pistol and some ammunition have been recovered from his possession, the spokesman added.

Two NSCN(K) cadres killed in encounter with security forces | Zee News

Kohima: Two NSCN (Khaplang) faction cadres were killed in an encounter with security forces at Longsa village in Mokokchung district of Nagaland on Wednesday, police said.

On receiving information about the presence of a group of underground cadres, reportedly belonging to NSCN-K, security forces went to the spot and in the ensuing encounter two of the NSCN(K) cadres were killed, police said.

Weapons, ammunition including AK series rifle, pistol and Chinese grenades have been recovered during the operation, police said adding that the NSCN-K cadres were camping in a paddy field at Longsa village when the incident took place.

Confirming the gun-battle and deaths, Deputy Commissioner of the district Sushil Kumar Patel said that barring this incident, the overall law and order situation in Mokokchung is "totally under control".

There is no need to panic as the district administration and police and security forces were initiating measures to ensure peace and tranquillity, he added.
