A soldier was killed in firing by Pakistani army across Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir on Thursday, officials said.

They said that Indian and Pakistani armies exchanged fire in Uri (Baramulla district) and Machil (Kupwara district) sectors also prompting the authorities to suspend trade between two parts of Kashmir divided by the LoC.

“Cease Fire Violation (CFV) by Pakistan in Machil Sector of Kupwara district at around 1045 hours today. Own troops retaliated strongly. One soldier martyred in enemy fire,” said Srinagar-based army spokesman, Col Rajesh Kalia.

Officials said Pakistani army also violated the ceasefire agreement in Uri sub-division’s Kamalkote area in Baramulla district on Wednesday and Thursday prompting a response from the Indian army.

Today once again during press conference Asif Ghafoor refused to give number of military casualties on LoC and mentioned only civilian casualties.

But the fact that ISPR had to accept civilian casualties and Indian LoC firings are at a record high means military casualties are a record high too.

Previously Pakistan belatedly accepted there were 46 civilian casualties in 2016 along with 27 military casualties and in 2017, 34 military casualties along with 53 civilians.
In 2018 so far ISPR has accepted 55 civilian casualties and is silent on military casualties but it is clear that military casualties are definitely greater than 34.
