SRINAGAR: A soldier in Indian-administered Kashmir opened fire on his own unit, killing four fellow soldiers and wounding one other, an army spokesman said.

Indian army spokesman Lt. Col. J.S. Brar said the man sprayed his unit with automatic weapon gunfire Thursday morning. He was later arrested.

The soldiers were part of an anti-insurgency unit in Punjpora, a village 28 miles south of the region’s main city of Srinagar.

The state has been swarming with Indian soldiers since the start of a separatist rebellion in 1989 seeking the region’s independence from India or merger with Pakistan.

There have been similar incidents in the past attributed to the stressful conditions the troops work under, including long hours under extreme weather conditions.

:what:

BBC said ''India soldier 'kills colleagues''

what difference does it make?

this isnt the first time indian soldiers are turning the guns on eachother.....many previous such incidents. I guess the inflatable dolls and prostitute batallions (which i read about in indian media) are not doing enough to curb the occupation-related stress

bummer!

.
This is just the begining, more attrocities in Kashmir will bring more infighting among Indian Army units.
