Indian Scientists Successfully Intercept Ballistic Missile

Have you ever studied Physics?..If you have, you would know in a parabolic trajectory to achieve higher vertical range(and thereby terminal velocity) horizontal range of the projectile has to be sacrificed.

Yes I did. I also happen to have a PhD degree from a top50 uni of the world.

.
Congrats to India for a successful test. And thanks to America for providing much technical assistance.

Also thanks to America for the 20 year arms sales embargo.

Without such embargo, China could have ended up as another india.

Trajectory of the said missile is calculated real time by swordfish(modified version of Israeli Green pine radars).

Would the speed be achievable if its done this way. How about reentry maneuverability and decoys? Any deployed?

Speed of projectile is dependent on maximum vertical range(apogee) a said projectile achieves, because it is in a free fall condition.

Present test were said to carried out against a maneuvering target(zig zag like Russian Topol M)

Decoys -not yet.

The information we have is what we read in media's.

The interceptor, developed under the Ballistic Missile Defence System, destroyed the target, a variant of Prithvi-II, mimicking an enemy missile, fired from launch complex-III of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur on-Sea in Balasore district, about 70 km from Wheeler Island across the sea, at an altitude of 16 km over the Bay of Bengal. The interceptor was fired five minutes after the target was fired around 9:32 am, director, ITR, S P Dash said.

Defence sources said within three minutes of the target's launch, the missile tracking network, comprising long range and multi-function radars and other range sensors positioned at different locations, detected and identified the incoming missile threat, paving the way for the interceptor, Advanced Air Defence (AAD) missile, to zoom through the sky at a speed of 4.5 Mach and blast it

To ascertain the interceptors kill effect detailed results and data from multiple tracking sources were being analysed, sources in Defence Research and Development Organisation said. The success of this test is a major achievement leading towards deployment, sources added.

Sources said the interceptor, designed for endo-atmospheric condition (up to 30 km altitude), is seven-metre long and single stage solid rocket propelled guided missile, equipped with an inertial navigation system, a hi-tech computer and an electro-mechanical activator under command by the data uplinked from sophisticated ground based radars. The interceptor designed for exo-atmospheric condition is a two-stage missile, sources added.

Anything more than this information, wait for a few days. The test happened just yesterday and we didnt have lurking camera men's around the site or in the sky who can post private videos.

We are , just like you awaiting for the official response from the DRDO regarding the programme including the specifics.

But i dont think even if we furnish details, that troller guy would agree on it and come up with lame excuses.

So be patient if you are defense enthusiast or else have a field day... satisfy yourself. :kiss3:

Then the test is not real life scenario then as decoys play a big part. In any case, US is having trouble with mid course ABM capability because of decoys. So that is why we might forget about this and go for boosting phase interceptor.

This test been done to validate the interception of warheads (with speeds < M15) at terminal phase (not reentry), why can't you read the article properly and reply. There is lot more to be done regarding dummy elimination etc, this test is specifically for Pakistani missiles rather than Chinese missiles.

1.The incoming target missile was shot down on its boost stage.

You have scored a big zero on this! Ares has explained the concept very well. Read his reply!

2.okay, this is cool, isn't it? The USA and China simply can not do this. I mean india is the only nation on earth to have such capacity. For decades, scientists have concluded that you need space based weapons to hit and destroy such a ballistic missile during its boost stage. clearly no one has acquired such capacity. during its boost stage, the velocity is small, single missile, very much predictable path. I mean that is the best stage to destroy such a missile.

While this is factually correct, it still falls in the rant catagory as it follows point 1.

3.The problem is your enemy is always going to launch a missile thousands of kilometers away from the border, you don't have enough time to detect the launch and then fly yours to hit the incoming missile during its boost stage

The problem is you have no freakin idea about The swordfish radars used in Indian BMD program.

Swordfish is an Indian Long range tracking radar specifically developed to counter ballistic missile threat. First testing of this radar was in March 2009.

Main aim of the test was to validate the capabilities of the indigenously developed Swordfish Long Range Tracking Radar (LRTR). "The missile to be hit will be fired from a longer distance than it was in the earlier test. DRDO tested whether the radar could track the incoming missile from that distance or not" said a member of the project:azn:

Also, The Swordfish LRTR currently has a range of 600 km (370 mi)-800 km (500 mi) km range which the DRDO plans to upgrade to 1,500 km by 2011

4.So how india did it yesterday? You will never believe it: india launched the anti-ballistic missile from a site 70 kilometers away from the launch site of the target missile. This means, if China is going launch a missile from say Beijing, india's lovely anti-missile system need to be deployed a couple hundred kilometers away from Beijing to intercept it, say deploy it in Tianjin.

This assumption is so childish that it doesn't even deserve a reply!:hitwall:

So what india actually did?

1. assume the launch can be detected by a land based rader.
2. assume the missile is launched no more than a couple hundred kilometers away from their anti-missile system.
3. assume they have such units everywhere and in combat ready status 365/24/7.

This is basically a joke, the entire world is laughing at india.

From these lines I now assume (no I infer) that you are a total fanboy and know Freakin nothing about BMD!

I don't know about the world but every sane member here on PDF is laughing at you!

Here comes the most interesting bit:
Now we all know it is easy to hit a missile in its boost stage and you have anti-missile systems a couple kilometers away. Let's say someone is going to be that stupid to launch it near your border to let you play with your anti-missile system, my question is why the hell they can't use another anti-missile missile to shot down your anti-missile?

Here comes the most Interesting bit,

How TF you assumed that the point of impact of the target missile was going to be the AAD launch site? The target missile was launched towards sea and was intercepted over the sea, not anywhere near the AAD launch point.

You also seem to forget that the range of AAD is 200km, so there goes your most interesting bit into the dust!

Report From The Hindu says---

The interceptor manoeuvred in the direction of the target, which was called the “least energy manoeuvre,” he said. The interceptor raced into the sky at 4.5 Mach. In the terminal phase of the attacker's flight, as it was hurtling towards the earth, the interceptor's radio frequency seeker “acquired the target, rolled the interceptor in the right direction and, when it was a few metres from the target, gave the command to the directional warhead to explode,” Dr. Saraswat explained.

The warhead detonated, blasting the attacker to pieces. The ground-based radars and the sensors on board the targeted missile tracked the debris, which rained down over the Bay of Bengal, “confirming a very good kill,” the DRDO Director-General said. “Based on the data from the target, a 100 per cent kill was achieved.”

The radars were located at Konark and Kendrapara, near Paradip, in Orissa.

All the points in bold prove the fallacy of your imaginary claims!

You can't understand it? Fine, one simple example:

Chinese forces intentionally move their DF missiles to the launch point which is 200km away from india border, launch it, call india, say "hey, we just launched it from blah blah position. " India fights back, ant-missile system launches its crap. So two missiles are both in its boost stage, 200km away from each other, then please tell me why Chinese forces can't launch another missile to shot down your anti-missile missile?

:woot:

time to wake up, the regime intentionally made this project to fuel nationalism. they are your enemy.

Now that your BS is exposed, it is time for you to stop being arrogant and go to your studies. Rants like above won't make it right, you know!

DRDO has plans for that using laser interceptors and space based infrared/opto-electronic sensors .
