Indian Railways : Tejas 2.0

Just like the viper is a fighter aircraft and a car, Tejas can also be a fighter aircraft and a train! Its just a name.

That would be more appropriate for Train 18. This rake is capable of speeds of more than 200 Km/h.

. .
we need trains fast enough to reach from any one part to another within 12-16 hrs. (max)
If we can manage that both passenger and railway!

I am sure we can find a better name for Train 18.
coming next is train 20 !

.

Yeah train 20 is delayed sadly cause the response to the Tender was lackluster. Once we have the technology for building Aluminium rakes, the speed should reach to around 250 Km/h. I think semi HSR on short routes and HSR aka shinkansen on the golden quadrilateral (after transfer of technology and local manufacturing) is the way to go along with upgrade of tracks and signalling system.

I have been a proponent of Bullet train for india but now that we know train 18 can go as high as 200kmph, i dont think 250Kmph bullet train is sensible, its much costlier and speed difference isnt much. I think it would be better if we use that money for fast rolling train 18 and 20.
Or go for a higher speed HSR..

250Kmph train would be pointless. We need a HSR network, with speeds of 350Km/hr.

You must realize that the average speed of HSR is 270 Km/h and for the Train 18 will be around 130Km/h because of the track and signalling technology used in HSR vs Semi HSR. Therefore the difference is still 100 Kh/h which IMHO is still huge. Do read up on the technologies used, its quite interesting. Also with local manufacture of shinkansen prices will also stand reduced. The maximum speed difference would be 350 km/h vs 220 km/h.

Another shitty named stuff. Should have a good catchy English name instead.

The average operational speed for HSR is 250 kmph and for train 18 its, like u said, 130kmph.
Both these trains are capable of much higher speeds. Which means we aren't limited by technology but by supporting infrastructure.
Im not saying that we have state of the art technology, what i mean is that tech isnt the roadblock for us in pursuit of high speed trains, infra is.
Which is why i think upgrading the tracks, signals and control department alongwith standardising train 18 is more suitable option, and later on we can go for HSR.
Infra upgrade shouldnt be put on hold only coz of HSR.

I didnt have this opinion 2 days ago, but now that we know Train 18 is capable of 200kmph, shouldnt we first strive to achieve 180-185 kmph operational from it as soon as possible?

Nope the avg operation speeds will remain 130 km/h and 250 kmh and not higher. The shinkansen in Japan also runs at 250 km/h (avg speed) after having the best signalling system. As I said read up on this, its quite interesting. I am suggesting Semi HSR on small routes as HSR wont be economically feasible due to land acquisition / elevated tracks etc. For golden quadrlateral which involved thousands of kilometers each way HSR with atleast a 100 km/h advantage and justify the economics of things. What is another low hanging fruit though is Aluminium coaches which are lighter than the steel used currently to increase the speed of semi hsr to avg speed of 160 km/h.

My two cents. Kapish!

Haha. Not everything. This is Train 18

Actually it can be stretched upto 210 kmph but will be restricted to 160-170 kmph due to rake limit

I am sure we can find a better name for Train 18.

Atal Express since it will be start running between Varanasi to Delhi on 25/12/2018 since its the Birthday our previous PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

T-20 progamme already started, will be tested between 2020-21

Tender process of T-18 itself hilarious, entire railway tried to derail it, but somehow someone had to see it through the tunnel.

T-18 & T-20 will be our future and Shinkansen will be limited to few lines due to its infra upgrade or new line laying cost.

T-18 is a stop gap it will be modified later as lot of models are coming through recently. ICF will rationalize it later for better serviceability.

250Kmph train would be pointless. We need a HSR network, with speeds of 350Km/hr.

Shimoga to Bangalore distance is 276 kms.
Mumbai to Chennai via Bangalore distance is 1300 kms.
Unlike China we are more urbanized but unlike Japan we are not bound by TIME.
by my estimate, in 276 kms distance IR will have to give atleast 8 stops which will put THE END to the Bullets & Trains. T-18 is best suited for such areas. using a train of 350 km/hr is waste of money considering return on investment.

ICF is trying to build HSR with local support for IRs low cost option. you can't lay new line everywhere or upgrade old ones simultaneously you need time & money for that. which we can't afford now.

I do hope in time we get good names, however right now these names have been given in year of introduction viz Train 18 that arrived in 2018 and Train 20 that is slated for tests in 2020.
