The AeroIndia 25

Tejas's historic Sortie!

On February 9, 25 at Yelahanka, Bengaluru, CAS, Air Chief Marshal AP Singh, and COAS, General Upendra Dwivedi, flew a sortie together in the local LCA Tejas in a historic moment.
This flight demonstrates the increasing interoperability of the services and the operational potential of Make In India platforms, which is a tribute to collaboration, teamwork, and Atmanirbharta.

This milestone, which marks the start of AeroIndia25, lays the groundwork for India's growing capabilities in domestic defense manufacture.

A life-sized model of India's fifth-generation fighter jet, the Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA), was on display at the India Pavilion at Aero India 2025. For the Indian Air Force and Indian Navy, the AMCA is a stealth, multi role, all-weather, single-seat, twin-engine combat aircraft.

Important Points:

Development and Design:
The Aeronautical Development Agency (ADA) is working on the AMCA, and by 2035, mass production is expected to start. The project was approved for prototype development in March 2024 after the design work was finished in 2023. The first flight is anticipated to occur one to one and a half years after the first prototype, which is anticipated to launch in three years.
Generational Advancements: The Mark-1 variant will feature 5th generation technologies, while the Mark-2 will incorporate 6th generation technology upgrades. Some reports have also described the AMCA as a 5.5-generation fighter aircraft.

Capabilities: The AMCA is intended to perform air supremacy, ground strike, Suppression of Enemy Air Defenses (SEAD), and electronic warfare (EW) missions. It is designed for low radar cross-section and super cruise capability. It will also have some sixth-generation characteristics such as optionally crewed, directed energy weapons, capable of controlling UCAVs, and swarm drones.

Engine Development: Rolls-Royce and Safran are competing to provide the engine for the AMCA, with both offering 100% technology transfer. General Electric (GE) is also a contender

Strategic Importance: The development of the AMCA aligns with the Indian government's push for self-reliance in defense manufacturing and strengthens India's aerospace industry
The IAF plans to induct at least 125 AMCA aircraft in Mark-1 and Mark-2 configurations.

The AeroIndia 25

On February 11, the Indian Air Force (IAF) held an International Air Chiefs' Roundtable as part of the current Aero India 2025. Forty delegations from different countries participated in the event, along with 17 Air Chiefs. The impact of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) and unmanned combat aerial vehicles (UCAVs) on upcoming conflicts was the main topic of discussion. This meeting perfectly captured the essence of international cooperation in tackling changing global security concerns.
