Indian Ocean: the new Great Game

Indians getting wet dreams again.

Let them face a force of 2 Chinese supercarriers carrying up to 120 stealth fighters, 2 Type-55 Cruisers, 4 Type-052D destroyers and a couple of Type-095 SSNs and see how their Navy compares against his.

Only the US can compete with China.

I know people are always taught to respect their father, but isn't this a bit too far? 2 Chinese supercarriers that carry 120 stealth fighters? China doesn't even have a carrier yet, it's coming into service by 2015.

2 Chinese supercarriers :woot::lol: not atleast till a decade mate, but till than IN will be having a 3 carrier force.

120 stealth fighters....... they have not even started operating usual 4th gen fighter from an operational carrier & u r talking about 5th gen stealth fighters for the navy (the AF version is only a decade away, just imagine the timeline for a carrier version), so what u r talking is again 15 years in future, till than IN will be operating 100+ 4.5 gen planes from carriers + another 100 from land bases.

+ I know PLAN is a much larger force than IN but as far as Indian Ocean is concerned they can't compete with IN + they themselves are tied down in the Pacific & SCS b'coz of the increased USN activities, so IOR is there secondary priority (or even tertiary).

+ If u are done with cheerleading, may i know what salary u get for the job???

these are golden words... common speak out.... 2 carrier with 120 stealth fighters.....

The deployment of Indian Navy however, is instructive in many ways. Two thirds of Indian naval forces are deployed along its western coast. The strategic Malacca Strait is covered by a small Tri-service Andaman and Nicobar Command. The major bias of operations is not towards the Eastern Indian Ocean which controls the entry into South China Sea against India’s declared enemy number one – China. The bias is towards Pakistan, domination of the strategic Straits of Hormuz in Persian Gulf and Bab el Mandab which links Mediterranean with Greater Indian Ocean through the Suez Canal.

With introduction of US and its Allied naval powers in Indian Ocean though, Indian maritime power has largely been neutralized and its aspirations of Indian Ocean dominance severely undermined. With US 7th Fleet stationed in Japan and Chinese and Japanese naval powers operating in the South China Sea, which many analysts treat as an extension of Greater Indian Ocean, India can neither intrusively dominate the Malacca Straits nor can project its naval power into the South China Sea. With presence of US 5th Fleet in the Persian Gulf and the sensitivity of Middle Eastern and European powers towards Bab el Mandab, Indian naval power projection here is also a no-go. If for a reason, India threatens to disrupt the international SLOCs, it will invite the wrath of international community. Therefore, Indian Navy which by 2015 is slated to become the 3rd largest two aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines navy in the world, would mainly remain a coercive force in being, providing anti-piracy support.

indeed

US has deployed 60% of its fleet against China and for at least next 15 years, Countering this threat and facing challenges they face in SCS, is priority of CCP

Your analysis is pretty much wrong.... USN is not intend to neutralize Indian Navy but Plaan.... what ever Japanese, Indian , and US navies are not against each other.... coming to AN islands ... significantly military establishments in those islands are increasing.....

all those japanese navy ,Indian navy and USN is to minimize or neutralize the PLAAN threat in IOR region aswell USN and Japanese navy in SCS..

Our primary aim is securing our maritime borders and ship routes coming to India so we can thwart any attempt of cutting our supplies through sea and a potential blockade against India.

We have vast maritime border and we are over dependent on sea, as 70% of our oil comes through sea

Thus a strong, sophisticated and powerful navy is must for us and that's a reason IN, unlike its counterpart in west receives decent share in budget and is given proper attention

Our secondary aim is increasing our naval dominance and remains capable of naval blockade against our enemies

We have the capacity of posing a naval blockade. Example> Blockade of Karachi in 1971 which was a critical blow to Pak economy

We are capable of doing power projection in Indian Ocean since decades and our capability will only increase with newer platforms like P17 stealth frigates, P15 stealth destroyers, at least 2 new ACs, nearly dozen P8I ASW platforms and Arihant class SSBNs

The author makes some very interesting statements in this article, e.g. "Indian Navy which by 2015 is slated to become the 3rd largest two aircraft carriers and nuclear submarines navy in the world, would mainly remain a coercive force in being, providing anti-piracy support."

Well, this article is true up to an extent

However with growing US-China rift and US focusing on Indian Ocean, there will be always a room for IN dominance

another reason will be our SSBNs, which will capable of launching K 4 and A 6 missiles with 3,500 KM and 6,000 KM range, while being hidden in Indian ocean or bay of Bengal;thus posing huge threat to our enemies in South Asia and IOR region

US, off-late has extensively engaged India enhancing the economic interaction and initiating a strategic partnership while attempting to garner Indian support for a countervailing and hedging effort against rising China. Apparently however, still immersed in the cold war farce of non-aligned neutrality syndrome, Indians have not reciprocated in the manner US expected it to. Therefore, without assimilating Japan and South Korea, India US strategic partnership is likely to remain an intellectual strategic discussion forum and nothing beyond.

It clearly means that, with the presence of powerful navies of the world in Indian Ocean, Indian Navy is essentially all dressed up but nowhere to go, unless it acquiesces to US demands as its closest allies, Japan, UK and Israel reciprocate.

Secondly, because the Chinese need access to Indian Ocean, they have augmented their presence in Burma, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.

What can Indian Navy do besides fighting pirates;

Block Malacca Straits where such a large percentage of oil and trade passes through - No way.

Block Bab el Mandab which critically links European oil and trade with Asia - Not a chance.

Block the Persian Gulf with US 7th Fleet sitting there - Out of question.

Establish a naval blockade of a nuclear Pakistan, which is needed for access to Afghanistan by the US and China needs access to international trade zones - you must be out of your mind.

Therefore, Indian Navy nun bandran di laal kurti pahnao, dugdugi bajao, bandari vargan nachao te maze lutto.

You have one point agenda during all discussion ...
U.S is in asia just for 10-15 yrs more..Till then, they want to settle the world as per their order and raise their stooges all over the world to retain their dominance.Few of the countries are ready to do that job n few shown reluctance like india.Till then U.S will arrange settlements wrt israel and controlling china. This is the reason for their shifting of navy to asia

Our location is south asia and indian ocean...

Indian navy is not in position to take step anywhere in asia,it has limits and india needs time to take that role in asia due to limited resources. So to fill that gap,U.S is shifting their bases in south asia near china and U.S is trying to bring australia, japan, korea navies with india..India dont have capability to operate in south china sea w/o U.S help and china will take 10 yrs more to come in indian ocean and why shud india take step against china for west?...we cant risk 2.7 billion for west.

Your point of U.S or other navies in indian navy or anger of west against india have no point ...Silently,west have agreement with india wrt countering china but due to lack of resources n indian reluctance forced them to join theirself.
Let india to take 5-7 years more, you will see who will rule indian ocean  ...

and dont forget the indian coast which is too vast and we need huge navy to cover it.....which we dont have..

so with ur limited brain n knowledge, you will only find and see monkeys

Moral of the story is ...we dont have resources presently and give us 5-7 yrs more...till then indian navy will be enough to take on whole paksitan  ....
