Any idea on the contenders?There was a previous tender also which was scrapped I think. India's requirements would warrant platforms of LHD capability than LPD I think. 20k tonnes+?

I think there is a fair bit of intersection. But as far as I understand is LHDs are almost always bigger than LPDs and can have a significantly bigger airwing of helicopters or stovl aircrafts. Can serve a multirole purpose of light aircraft carriers and amphibious missions.
Our existing INS Jalashwa will always be classified as LPD.
Japan's Izumo class, Hyuga class, USN's Wasp class would be classified as LHDs.
