Indian Navy installs anti hijacking system to counter Somali pirates.

Posted by Naveen Kar on October 18, 2011

Activity of Somali pirates in the Gulf of Aden is on the rise. As a result, the Indian Navy has started installing an anti hijacking security device on its warships that will help counter the attacks of these pirates.

The specialty of this device is that sound emanating from it can make unprotected people completely deaf. The Long Range Acoustic Device, as it is named, issues warning in several languages apart from generating high pitch sound.

Indian Navy has installed the device on INS Mysore and INS Satpura. According to some defense officials, this system will be installed on most of the naval ships.

The system will translate the warnings in different languages depending on the choice of vessel driver and area. Though this system is not fatal, it can make a targeted person deaf.

This tool can generate sounds up to 150 decibel, which is enough to make someone deaf.

The pirates who come near the device will lose their hearing for the rest of their lives. Indian Navy has got this system from an American company. Naval ships of USA, European countries, China and gulf countries are already using this system.
