So should racists. Have a nice life as well.

Indian Navy has to modernise and expand. The main reason is that with our expanding economy our naval trade has increased manyfold. Indian Ocean has some of the busiest shipping lanes. We have to ensure our interests are protected.

In the last few decades air power has been cited as the dominant force of war, but it is also acepted wisdom that he who controls the sea controls trade. we have to protect our trade routes in case of war, and for that a large navy is needed.

This is the reason every aspiring superpower built up its navy. British navy ruled the oceans in the 19th century, USA and USSR vied for naval superiority in the 20th century. In the 21st century China and India have joined the fray.

But sir still IN has long way to go ..... I can say we r indeed in right path though

the problem is, the indian ocean does not belong to india. the US navy operates a major naval base a few hundred miles south of india actually. did you forget them? think they'll just let you walk in and take over?

currently, the atlantic is a US lake, the pacific is almost a US lake except the tiny strip controlled by china, vietnam, north korea and russia in the yellow sea, south china sea, east china sea, and half of the sea of japan, only the indian ocean and arctic oceans are open, but the US navy controls the whole southern half of the indian ocean and the western half of the arctic.

india is making huge improvements but eventually IN's modernization will start threatening the americans.

Dude U r were right on one point...... and it s not the intention of IN as well. But the strategic importance of guarding our coast and preventing the enemy gaining access in case of war is what makes for this modernization important..... And it s not directed against the US

As if he meant Stupid by hegemonic.

hegemonic = keeping a dominance over the other, for instance political dominance.

Pakistan's Naval Cheif says that India's naval expansion is to politically dominate the region (with a concern over Pakistan).

Whats so strange about it, atleast He dint say, we are going to destroy Indian navy in 48hrs and take control of Mumbai in 96hrs.

Naval dominance has always made empires a Superpower from Greece, Rome, France(Nepolianic times) and later British empire to America today.:police:

BEST OF LUCK FOR YOU AND YOUR NAVY :yahoo:

If you look at the plans for the Indian Navy.

1. 1 air carrier from Russia. at least 1 under construction in Kochi.
2. Shivalik class frigates about to be commissioned. 3 ships
3. Kolkata class destroyers X 3 - 1st to be commisioned in 2012.
4. Talwar class frigates - 3 more from Russia.
5. Akula II class SSN.
6. Arihant class SSBN.
7. Scorpene subs
Indian naval policy is closer to the US, British policy of sea-control. Carriers and large destroyers are the cutting edge of the Indian fleet.
China and Pak follow the sea denial policy. Broadly speaking this means they lack carriers and big escorts. Rely more on subs and fast missile boats.

there are concerns over the speed of construction of Indian vessels. Delays have been frustrating. A faster procedure for construction and induction needs to be followed so the Navy doesn t need to operate older vessels beyond their useful life.
