Indian naval presence in Indian Ocean concern for China: Mehta

Yawn.... only areas NEAR to India is Indian territory. :) You can't "forbade" others from using the ocean. Just like Japan or US or Cuba can't forbade any body from using the Pacific or Atlantic Ocean.

yep two words, international waters
the indian ocean is too important to china right now so of course the security of its shipping is very much a concern

of course, India cannot forbid others from using the ocean, but it should have the power to control that ocean in case of any aggression by any country.

Howcome the Indian Navy cheif woke up so late to claim that because India had been present in Indian Ocean for so long and its only India which got worried when recently China started increasing its infulence in the Indian ocean.

India need to control Indian Ocean, while China need to Control China Sea. But at least for trade nothing should be barrier.

You just answered your own question. Who thought China would aggressively build its string of pearls throughout Indian ocean and near India say 10-15yrs ago?. now thatz a wake up call for India.

umm names dont mean u have to control it, but anyways the chinese wish to secure its trade line going through the india ocean is not gonna stop, maybe matched naval power

杀鸡儆猴.........Indian ocean is the challenge we have to face if PLA want to build up a blue sea navy, cut the meaningless oral crap let's see where this competition is going

Well u first need to have capable brown water navy...which can pose serious threat to Taiwan. Indian Ocean is still dream for PLA.

Hint: Logistics

I think this String of Pearls need to be understood by members (this goes for all nationality).

In case of conflict, do you think these ports can be used as logistic depot. Do you think excpet for Pakistan anybody else will allow PLN ships in there port during conflict period. Will they allow ships from PLN to come in their port to load arms which will be used against India. This will make them party to conflict which will be tough call.
To counter IN in IO, PLN need to have quite a few numbers of ships in IO. How they will be supported from the logistics POV. Even the usefullness of Gwadar for these "Quite-a-few" PLN ships is doubtfull.

Friend china cant do much about india in our own 'INDIAN OCEAN'. lol. They cant match india in future. Just by having numbers wont make chinese navy superior against indian navy in future. i have seen most chinese war ships. They looks like fishing boats. Only some chinese warships are bit good. Remember always friend India good at defending. China can only dream about indian ocean. Indian ocean is crown of india. If china dares to think about indian ocean than india would make grave yard for chinese navy in advance. India already hinted china what happens when they enter in our area. Cheers

 You should be spokesman of Indian navy :yahoo:
your comments are totally senseless.
75% indian navy is consist of Russian ships nothing special if you compare it with china.
PLA navy operating more than 100 aircrafts not good for P-8i:chilli:

Folks Folks Folks !!!

Nothing is gonna happen b/w India and China (atleast in INDIAN Ocean)

We are in Diego Garcia, Indian ocean!:usflag:

String of pearls is not about loading arms or docking distroyers in wartime against India......its about dominating the region which is named after us; its about being the "alpha dog" of Indian ocean!

"u dont want ur neighbour to be the head of ur family, do u?.........NO!"

You have got right..the string of pearls is not a military option.Does anybody seriously think that Sri Lanka or Bangladesh will host Chinese naval ships in a conflict with India?

What it will do is ensure continuous movement of goods to China on civilian ships...India can hardly attack a Sri Lankan port because a civilian ship is carrying goods to China..it may not even be under a Chinese flag.

the chinese acquisition of the Cocco islands from mayanmar is a wake up call.
setting up of a navy base so close to the country is to be deemed as an aggressive move.

They have listening station there nothing more AFIK...should not take a lot of effort to knock that out if it came to it. India should not be paranoid about every single Chinese move.

Well Indian Ships are hybrid of Russian hardware and Westerner and Indian Electronics systems.

Well what is the range of these 100 aircraft? and how much able to reach Indian oceans?

Russian ships, which indian owns are of world and 1st class level.
