A MIG 21 Bison air craft of the Indian Air Force has crashed near the Naliya air base in Gujarat.

The pilot safely ejected before the crash. He is a Wing Commander rank officer, reports suggest.

There have been no injuries on the ground.

The last MIG to crash was in December last year.

This is the second air craft post April 2012.

. .
BISONS ARE SUPPOSED TO BE MOST ADVANCED AND SECURE OF ALL MIG 21'S, YET THEY ARE CRASHING IN LARGE NUMBERS

.
As pilot ejected safely .

Thank God you saved one family today..

Lets wait to analyse the reasons for this one's crash. You're right Bison is the most secure and
powerful mig-21 variant out there. But tahts does not mean its immune to crashing. Its crash arte
is still very less compared to the older mig-21 variants.

There goes another one. Please keep atleast one alive for "Decommissioning Function" which is to happen soon.

I remember a member mentioning Flight envelope restrictions of IAF as a one cause, any idea what it means?

I seriously dont think it is true. IAF wouldn't frame anything "outside the envelope" , it not only affects the plane but the pilot too. Envelope is a broader term to be used, there is an envelope for every turn and angle. Why would anyone push the aircraft beyond its limitations when on a sortie?

well it is another way of lobbying for MMRCA deal to be implemented as soon as possible

Close down the entire mig 21 and 27 supply chain and retire them and replace them with LCA mk1. Those birds are at least as capable as a mig 21 and 27 put together, if not more. Waste spending any more on their upkeep, and spend it on the domestic aerospace industry by supporting the tejas.

By the way the topic of the poll is not something that is to be voted upon, its not a matter of public opinion. The answer is to be given by the technical team of the IAF, not the general public.

Get rid of those old Mig in your fleet, get some new one like J7BGI.

The IAF will not accept anything less than 4+ gen multirolers from now. No more of the mig-21/27 equivalents for the future IAF, and that's a good thing.
