Indian deputy consul general arrested in US on visa fraud charges

US justice department will make sure US state department disapprove the defendant application. US justice department always have the final say with legal matter.

Yeah...then we'll bring her back home. She have comfortable home here.

It depends on the DA, Preet Bharara.

She not free to leave the US, her passport was held on by the US immigration agency.

India is free to issue her a new passport.

One thing is for sure, she is not going to spend a day in prison in the US.

The D.A already forward their case to the court, and the court already issued the indictment, US D.A office had hard evident to charge the defendant with a crime. US D.A can't just drop this case without a reasonable explanation to the US population.

She did spend one night in jail and posted bail after appear in court to please not guilty, depend on how her trail in court will be play out, she either be acquit or convict will be decide by the jury during her trial in US criminal court.

She spent 6 hours in jail.

I agree, to India pride is more important than justice. I have written off India, that nation is destined to remain a sorry mess until people change their attitude.

Let me be careful this time, you tend to misread my comments maybe due to shortfall in my articulation.

Indian government's/Media's outrage has been directed towards the US's interpretation of vienna convention of 1963 regarding consular staff, of whose interpretation roughly is considered not to subject diplomats to civil criminal code unless the matter is in the nature of grave criminal offence.

Next is Indian diplomats in India coming out in public and raising suspicions that this was directed as a vindictive measure by US state departments tacit approval as a retaliation to last visit of Indian foreign secretary who was trying to show US state dept, the book on getting access to David headley. Thus this was a by the book measure by US interdepartmental action...

Another aspect has been the strip search, although in US it's not a big deal and I understand why, culturally subjecting an Indian women to strip search will create a public reaction. I do not believe that US officials are that dumb to not understand it's implications in a country like India. This hasn't been the first case, If George bush or Clinton was subjected to a strip search in India, what predent would it set. Why cant US recognize Ex Presidents travelling on a written ledger when they can identify terrorists hiding under a camel from satellites.

Additionally, US flying the maids family from india in a case that has a Prima Facia evidence provided by Indian Government deems US actions deplorable as it is in fact accusing the Indian government of institutional unjust practices. Then there is the diplomat getting a call from an unidentified lawyer for settlement with a large Sum, and attorney General going out of the way to defend the actions- all of them raises additional suspicions...

United States of America when declares India as a global ally and then intentionally declines to address India's sensitivities, It projects the exact ground situation that US want's i.e. US doesn't care about India.....

And then there are eminent representatives of US school of thought on the internet, you included who show us the book on the case and completely ignore our sensitivities, declaring 1/6th of the world population to remain a "mess" among other things...Such compliments do not project the sense of global partnership which has been whitehouse's rhetoric for more than a decade....

If she convicted for the crime she accused of, how can she will be free to leave and not serve her time?

Diff'rent strokes f'r diff'rent folks. If I recall protocol correctly, envoys of ministerial rank and higher aren't subject to the rules on domestics that mere consuls are, and their personal inviolability is near-absolute by comparison.

How exactly do you plan to take her to the prison. She'll bundled into a consulate car, taken to a private airport and flown out.

They aren't, but what precedents are set when the ex-president of a country is subjected to a strip search, that too in this case is blatantly racial/religious profiling, as he has a muslim name... By definition it is a standard procedure, but then when an Indian member raises subjecting american dignitaries to standard procedures and diplomats to civil criminal justice code, it causes heartache in US US media....

The impression created is that India's diplomats only care about their own sensitivities, not those of their countrymen who they are supposed to represent. When a diplomat or set of diplomats reaches this point, their credibility plummets and their effectiveness crashes to zero: shunned by all, they can no longer represent their country abroad. So the great irony is that even if Khobragade and her superiors "win" they will likely be recalled or sharply demoted and thus never again exercise the human trafficking privileges they are so eager to fight for.

You mean India will sneak a criminal out of the US? I guess we all have to wait on how the US respond when the situation arise. For now, a defendant still waiting from the US state department to make a decision on her transfer to the UN mission. If a convicted felon is guilty of all charge, the police will handcuff her right in court and send her to prison.

When did media start declaring guilty... what gives you the right to accuse the diplomat of human trafficking, let the US justice system do it's job, not you job to start declaring who's guilty and who's not....

She is not going to appear in court.
