Code names and call signs can be changed in matter of hours..A GPS without the precision code has a CEP of 30 mtrs..which is almost useless targeting purposes for a small small target such as a helipad..position of Helipads can found by a simple overpass of a satellite or even google earth user can give you the position of helipads in a given area.

What installations?? positions of helipad does not give the location of installations...But what you can hope to find is maybe some make shift tents for the soldiers who have been deployed in the region.

An Indian recon satellite with a resolutions of 0.7 mts and swath of 600 kms can cover the entire Pakistani territory with in few sweeps and can pin point each every helipad you have in your country.This is but a small fish...would have been a big deal were we living in 60s..Today we have the ability to get real time info to track moving targets and not just position of fixed installation on loan from another country.

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan had scrambled a fighter jet after an Indian helicopter flew into its territory and the chopper was warned that it would be fired at if it attempted to escape, a media report said on Monday.

Pakistan on Sunday forced the Indian Army helicopter to land for violating its airspace.

Islamabad later permitted the three officers and a junior commissioned officer and the helicopter to return after interrogating them for a couple of hours, military sources told Dawn.

The Cheetah helicopter of India's Army Aviation Corps with four officers on board returned to Kargil in Jammu and Kashmir around 6pm, ending an inadvertent intrusion that immediately triggered urgent talks between the two foreign and military establishments. For the first time in many years, the two countries did not rachet up an incident like this.

Sources said that a Pakistan Air Force plane was scrambled immediately after spotting the helicopter and simultaneously the air defence, through its communication system, warned those on board that they would come under fire if they tried to escape.

The helicopter was deep inside Pakistani territory when it was intercepted and forced to land in the Olding sector near the Line of Control (LoC).

"The helicopter was some 20 kilometres inside Pakistan's territory when it was intercepted and forced to land near Skardu, Gilgit-Baltistan, at about 1pm," an air force officer was quoted as saying.

During the questioning, the helicopter crew said the chopper strayed due to bad weather and no deliberate attempt had been made to intrude.

The media report pointed out that though Indian aircraft had violated Pakistan's airspace in the past, it was perhaps for the first time that a chopper was forced to land.

The intrusion was the first such incident after the al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden's May 2 killing by US Navy Seals who flew into Abbottabad on Stealth choppers.

India had been promptly told about the incident, said sources who added that a probe was underway to see if it was a mistake or a deliberate attempt to test Pakistan's defence capabilities.

An official said the crew were freed within a few hours to give benefit of doubt because Pakistan did not want to vitiate the atmosphere and derail the composite dialogue process.

After interrogation - and examination of the aircraft by Army and Air Force experts - story of the indian crew was confirmed, (it was carrying spare parts, for another indian aircraft) - it was refueled and sent back on it's way, it was escorted out of Pakistani airspace by Air Force fighters to the LOC.

Also can confirm that PAF was scrambled - when the Heli was picked up on the Radar network, heli was instructed to land, or otherwise be shot down. AWAC's were reportedly also involved.

More information - helicopter was being tracked from deep within IOK airspace, when it reached within a few kilometers of LOC, AWACS controllers on board - scrambled F7 fighters from - airbase (will not name it on an open forum) - heli was told to land at nearest air force base, a welcoming party was on the ground, apparently the occupants were terrified - (maybe because of their own sides propaganda) - Officers on ground took them into custody, weapons were in the hands of the soldiers but were not pointed at the prisoners.

They were then thoroughly de-briefed, while Army and Air Force officials examined the Heli with a fine tooth comb. After story was verified, situation was resolved.

Sh-it happens----so what can one do about it----try not to do it again---. The indians can change their codes----but they cannot change their locations----the helipads are there----and will stay there---.

I think my pakistani colleagues need to calm down a couple of notches---at least we came out of it smelling like roses. WEe don't need to prove about the reaction time of the paf or the why the flt was not deployed earlier because that will show what we don't want to tell.

However hsi Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH) helicopter developed a snag and was grounded. His other chopper was not so lucky–it had to take the humiliation of being forced to land in Gilgit Baltistan.

It seem the “IT superpower” of the world didn’t train the pilots on how to read the GPS device that was installed in the flying machine.

According to press reports ‘Indian security has been breached in the sensitive Siachen Glacier-Aksai Chin-Ladakh-Kargil sector. The Pakistan Army has downloaded the GPS coordinates of all helipads from the Bharati army chopper that strayed across the Line of Control (LoC) into Skardu region on Sunday morning.

According to Pakistani authorities the Bharati Cheetah chopper was forced to land. Bharati representatives now are claiming that the chopper was not forced to land, but had only strayed across the border, and didn’t know where they were.

After the Cheetah landed, the crew was taken to nearby quarters where they were questioned. While the crew was questioned, Pakistani sleuths inventoried the Cheetah and looked for any clues that might be hidden in the Bharati prize. They found tons of sensitive information which they took with him.

Bharat is now in a quandary. They really don’t know what to do. Sensitive information has been stolen. They have formed a high powered committee to investigate–even suspecting the Bharati crew of espionage. Bharati officals are suspcious about the crew which was being questioned. Why would the copper stray across the LOC if the Cheetah was fitted with the GPS and there was no reason for the machine to stray into Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Kashmir.

According to press reports Top Bharati officials said that the incident was being probed at a highest level. Bharati Air Force officials have discovered that the GPS data of the helicopter ha been wiped out. Other information missing was the nicknames and code signs of all the helipads in the 14 Corps area. The Nemu, Leh-based 14 Corps of the Bharati Army is responsible for defense of Kargil-Leh, Siachen Glacier and Line of Actual Control (LAC) with Tibet. It was the same 14 Corp that was found sleeping during the Pakistani incursion into Kargil.

It is not beyond the realm of reality that the chopper was also bugged revealing the location of Bharati troops and pads on the other side of the LOC. It is pedagogical to note that Bharat has illegally occupied Siachin and refuses to relinquish it or withdraw its forces–even though thousands of Bharati soldiers have died because of cold and frostbite conditions.

The Bharatis are totally insulted because the Indian Army didn’t even know about the existence of the Pakistan artillery helipad number 90, on which the Cheetah landed in the Marol area just across the LoC in Kargil . The Bharati crew was low on fuel and was totally lost and didn’t even know how to get back. The Pakistan army refuled the chopper and allowed it to return to Kargil. They was laughing when they gave directions to pilots on how to get back home.

While Pakistan now says its fighter jet forced the Indian helicopter to land across the LoC, prima facie evidence reveals that the Indian pilot didn’t know where he had landed the helicopter due to bad weather conditions nor the Pakistan army had any clue about the landing.

Sources said 14 Corps commander Lt Gen Ravi Dastane was visiting an Indian position on Sunday morning ahead of Kargil when his advanced light helicopter (ALH) helicopter developed a snag and was grounded.

While another machine landed and flew Dastane to Srinagar, the Cheetah with a maintenance engineer was flown to the post to bring back the ALH after repairs.
It was during this maintenance mission that the Cheetah flew into bad weather and without the pilot realising it crossed the LoC into Pakistan territory of Marol, just across the Kargil town.
