Indian Army's Muslim headcount: 3%

"SO MUCH hullabaloo was made over the so-called census of Muslims in Indian Army. The figure was just 3 % that comes around 29,000 in the million-strong army, according to CNN IBN news channel's programme Minority Report.

If the number of Muslims serving in J& K infantry that has over 50% Muslims and those in other wings not directly dealing with warfare, the proportion is definitely too low. So out of a Muslim population of nearly 150 million (15 crore), barely 29,000 Muslims were found suitable for Army."

MIND u dear.. at least our muslim brothers DID claimed high ranking positions in the Indian Army, politics , society etc. can U pls tell me ANY HINDU OR SIKH brother had ANY significant position in Pak army or politics....?? I dont even see it coming in the next 50 odd years...
ALSO this HAS been discussed before... i think the MODS should take a notice of this and merge it with the old thread.

This is where your wishful Secular Status is hurt at the basis. We are Declared Muslim State and by law key posts would be served by Muslims. No controversy about it. But India is a so called "Secular" State and Muslims are the second largest religious group in India. So why Muslims are just 3% instead of 13.4%?

Who stopped Muslims from joining Army ? So if they don't want to join should we force them ?

None from my family has served in the army and i also blame the government for that. I hope when my son gets older they will force him into joining army...

You all are speaking in the favor of my argument! Muslims are Muslims First before being Indian. And when they "become Indian", they have to see Pakistan as their "Enemy State". But we know

So why hasn't this "Secular Paint" changed color of Muslims in India? if there are 3% Muslims in the army, the collective sum of rest of the religions would not be more than 1% and that means, an army of 94% Hindus is Army of Secular State. Is it?

What is criteria of some Muslim to enter the army? How do you find if somebody is "Suitable Muslim"? By picking up people who are low at faith?

it's not about representation that we are talking about...for in the army there is none...
if they apply for the army...and get selected...then we can have all the 150 million being eligible and being recruited.
if they makes up for 13.2% of the population...that doesn't mean...that 13.2% of people in all professions are muslims...
13.2% of chefs are not muslim..
13.2% of IT professionals are not muslims...etc
when you talk about parliamentary or legislative representation...then it is worth talking about.
here in India we call them quotas...and they are a hated thing.
as far as the army is concerned...you cut the benchmark you get in.

That's the love between Hindus & Muslims in Indian army. The Indian Muslims said they wanted to fight the Pakistan Army so they lead the fight. And your papers reported as Human Shields....

Indian first? muslim first?

Well do we belong to our mum or our dad first? Being Indian and being Muslim there is no conflict between the two. It is childish to insist on one or the other. Being Indian and being muslims are two parts of my makeup just as I belong to my mum and dad.

The constitution of India that guarantees religious freedom means that India is Dar-ul-aman. Therefore muslims are obligated by their religion to defend their country if anyone attacks it - even if they are muslims - as they have a covenant in the form of the constitution.

This applies to muslims living in any other country. If the American constitution / law allows freedom of religion, and he is a citizen of America. He is obligated to defend his country against aggression as well. Of course, if a country DOES NOT provide freedom of religion, then there is a problem. But there are hardly any countries that do not provide this. (ironically China is one such country)

If militant come across the border in Kashmir to kill civilians or politicians and a Muslim soldier in the Indian army fights against them to protect his countrymen and dies in the process he is shaheed. These militants are doing this even when freedom of religion is guaranteed. So obviously its not a Jihad but a political fight. Believe me even if India or IA becomes Muslim majority, it would still be the same situation. Except there would be some new reason to fight then.


Ofcourse as a muslim I care about muslims around the world for their well being. Infact I care for all the humans around the world, including non-muslims.

In case you didnt know, the word ummah by definition means ALL people from the time of prophet muhammad (SAW) till the last person. And that includes muslims and non-muslims. So when we make dua for ummat-e-muhammad, that includes non-muslims as well.

LOL. Lets ask for a fair share of money from the Oil rich Arabs. I don't want to see a single poor Muslim on this earth.

I have Muslims friends who will help me first (they might not even help other Muslims) and I will also do the same. There are somethings which are deeper than religion. You will never understand.

If they had any choice than I don't think you woul dbe having scarcitiy of Muslims in your army. which is self explanatory.
