The problem is that Indian procurement and induction and deployment of weapon platforms is so slow and cumbersome process that even with their grandiose plans that by the time they are implemented, the entire strategic balance has already changed.

Even the MRCA Competition, they started that process in 2001 and it won't be until 2016 when the first fighter arrives to be inducted and will be at least 2018 or 2020 before they are fully absorbed into the Indian Defence Infrastructure.

So 20 years from the start of the process until they are integrated into the Indian Forces.

$200 billion is too big an amount to be give in 5 yrs or may be 10 yrs.Sab apni chandi karnay main lage hain.I wonder whose idea is this.Whoever it is wants to make big bucks through defence procurments.May be P.Chidambram,his son and co.(ie generals of IA) and how much of this jaziya will be paid to Gandhis account in swiss bank?

You are looking at only one aspect of story. As far as IAF or MRCA is concerned, I agree there is a delay and its for obvious reasons. We dont have a president which favors an AC and dthen decision is taken, Technical requirements take time to field, and many AC delayed the trails as they were unable to meet all requirement in some field or other. Take AESA, how many aircrafts had AESA back in 2003???..a primary requirement.

Second, it was not about buying a fighter only, we baught the technology, each and every critical technology had to weighed against how much will be invested back in this country and what will be our benifits. Many things like that..

Second, if you compare IN with IAF, they are inducting at least 3/4 ships a year, you see the policy is not cumbersome, it is well designed. Its just that the requirement and the availability of such a requirement which delays.

IA has been plagued by curruption, which is not by IA, but by politicians. They are trying to buy an artillary but everytime they open a bid, some firm or other get black listed.

Hence dont blame the policy, its well defined and its adapting to new requirements, especially when a country doesnt believe in buying off thee shelve and going for a single vendor like many.

what after spending $200 billion they say, due to inflation and increased defense budget by our neighboring enemies, we need to revise the estimate from $200 billion to $400 billion…this is never ending, see how US defense companies/Pentagon have consumed huge portion of its tax payer’s money just by over-hyping current and future threat to American people…now it has become a mandate for the US government to keep spending huge amount on defense otherwise their people will lose their job…

IMO, develop good delivery systems for our Nukes and WMD weapons….deploy them in huge numbers and then talk peace…I am damn sure, the other party will prefer to talk to you on discussion table than on border!
