When people think of the largest immigrant groups in the U.S., Mexicans and Chinese usually come to mind. But changing immigration patterns have already led to a major demographic shift in America that has not yet been widely reported.

According to recent census data, immigrants from Asia constitute the fastest growing immigrant group, outpacing Latinos. While the media has been commenting on the surge of new arrivals from Asia as a giant monolith, one group in particular has been leading the rest — Indians.

Indian Americans are the second largest immigrant group in America

Indian Americans have quietly overtaken Chinese Americans and Filipino Americans for the crown of largest Asian group in the United States, and the second largest immigrant group in the country behind Mexicans.

Over two million Indian-born immigrants have migrated to the U.S. since 2013, accounting for 4.7 of the 41.3 million foreign-born population, according to theMigration Policy Institute. The Indian immigrant population increased ten-fold from 1980 to 2013, from 206,000 to 2.04 million, approximately doubling every decade.

This dramatic increase is in large part due to importing employees form India in mostly technology-related fields. In 2014, 70% of the 316,000 H-1B visa recipients were from India.

Immigrants from India have the highest household income out of any other group in America

Not only are Indian Americans now the second largest immigrant group in the country, they are also the wealthiest.

Considering the large number ofDesis in powerful corporate executive positions, it comes as no surprise that Indians are exceptionally successful in the U.S. Particularly, Google’s new CEO, Sundar Pichai; Microsoft’s president, Satya Nadella; and the CEO of Pepsi, Indra Nooyi. What do these CEO’s have in common? They were all born in India.

Although some of the most powerful corporations are spearheaded by Indians, it should be noted that the literacy rate in India is stillbelow the global average.

The median household income for Indian Americans is roughly$101,591— making them the highest earning group in the United States.

Large income disparity within Asian Americans

So while it’s true that Asian Americans earn the most out of any race in the United States, there is a stark wealth disparity that exists within our group. Many people don’t realize that Burmese, Bangladeshi and Hmong immigrants are some of the lowest earning groups in the entire country.

According to census statistics, therankings of median household incomesof various Asian Americans immigrant groups are as follows:

1.Indian Americans – $101,591

I dont know weather to be happy or feel sad for this news. While Indians have been doing good in America the other side of the coin is the brain drain that caused our country so many talented youngsters to look for opportunities outside the country for whatever may be the reason.

Happy cause if not used these brains are actually burden on india like Arvind Kejriwal :p::rolleyes:

.
There is no term as Indian American as any Indian immigrating from India has to forgo his/her Indian Citizenship so he/she is either Indian or American (if immigrates to India). Right?

Some send forex, some come back, there are few benefits too but you are right, most of them got subsidized education, we pay for them, get them trained, polish them and they work for other this is sad thing.

Yeah they cant take nationality of two countries. They have to surrender their nationality if they want to be American. They can live there as Indian on long term visa, moreover the term has barely anything to do with citizenship but origin. African American doesn't really mean that there is any single country named Africa.

Yeah don't take in literal context...it is more of division based on ethnicity...b/w this fact gives a bit of edge in lobbying games that are very relevant in american context...

It goes both ways.Having Indian expatriates doing well give your country an influence you dont factor in. But it also takes away many talented Indians who could have served their country had there been such opportunities available in their home country.

The underlined part applies to all countries whose citizen go abroad to find better opportunities.

How is he a burden on India and how are those working in Google, Microsoft, NASA, Adobe, etc will be a burden on India?

. .
at the end a non tangible asset called goodwill , that matters the most which we are enjoying atm. and cudos to those expats for their genuine efforts.
(keep aside the brain drain or forex reserve).

You dont have to be sad about it. If people keep on electing the likes of Lalu, Nitish, etc, they are bound to get the response in same coin.

Look at anywhere, even the so called educated person will park his car in the middle of road in Delhi. He will drive recklessly, he will throw waste on the road...
Untill people's mentallity is not changed, India's growth will be slow.

United States of India.
Now I got the meaning of when people used to say India is union of countries... So now, we can say America as another India, like what Christopher Columbus said when he discovered it. :)
