Asian Americans least likely to feel they belong in U.S., study finds

Here is the deal...

People do not immigrate/emigrate because of the past but because of the present and the future. For the US, immigrants do not look at US history and recoiled with horror then they chose another country or do nothing. If they chose another country, it is because the alternative (such as Canada) is somehow currently better than the US. The fact that they looked at the US in particular, and the West in general, means that at the PRESENT, the West, including the US, offers them more opportunities than where they are.

Asians who became Asian-Americans, first and later generations, are no different. It is not that they are ignorant of slavery or of the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 or of lingering racism in America. But rather, Asian emigres understood that PRESENT America in particular, and the West in general, has moved away from that past. They believe that present and flawed America offers them a better future than wherever they are, so they moved. First, they become immigrants, then they became emigres. The last is permanent.

Polls are social snapshots of emotions. Currently, AAs do not 'feel' they belongs in the US is not because of their fellow Americans but from certain institutions, famously higher education where prestigious universities have explicit discriminatory policies against AAs. The US government do not have such policy but the US government are currently filled with ideologues who shares the same racist attitude as academia, so the US government is apathetic about what is going on. AAs believes in meritocracy because the US once convinced them so. But now instead of once white racists who made racist politics and policies, the US have non-white racists who made nearly identical racist politics and policies. Blacks on Asian crimes do not make AAs feel as if they do not 'belong' in the US. It is those some private institutions are racists and the US government does nothing.

Unfortunately, some AAs contributes to racism in academia. Professor Asao Inoue is one. Inoue does not say 'Exclude Asian-Americans from universities'. But he believes that humans cannot go past skin color and that society's institutions, private and government, should reflect that.

Quite a number of studies. I checked before I posted.

I think 38% is the number. It includes marriages to other Asian groups
A Chinese American marrying Korean American would be included in the 38%

The real reason is there is less competition, a stronger exchange rate albeit rigged and also the hype of America. China is a hyper competitive society, only slightly less than Korea and Japan. Compared to Chinese gaokao, SATs is peanuts, besides that even if you get good grades, a uni placement is not guaranteed. We don't have that many private degree mills. Another thing is property price, most urban Chinese live in apartments. Americans still can afford landed properti3s in some cities. If you want to talk aboit crim3 and infrastructure, don't compare, i went to Hawaii recently, the shock I had looking at the homeless behind hilton hotel. If th3 folks back home knew how fck up US waa, they would think th3 slums of Shanghai was heaven.

One thing I notice, East Asians girl sure does love white boys lol

Because people tend to pay more attention and notice who the girls go out with but not the other way around, actually China's cross cultural marriages data clearly shows the ratio of Chinese guys marrying foreign girls is much higher than the opposite. 60.6% VS 39.4%

根据有关统计数据(国内婚姻登记),这一年,中国涉外婚姻中,中男外女的与外男中女在2019年继续扩大(60.6% VS 39.4%)。

You can portray how better is China to the US all you want, but this is about immigration, not how to compare China to the US. As long as your China remains racist, the US will always be the preferred destination and we will always benefit from that. There are more Asian names in US history than there are foreign names in Chinese history.

You have a failed society if people have to actually pack their bags and move to a different country to work.

Even if some job in Dubai paid me 4 times my salary I still wouldn't go there. Maybe you guys just don't have a strong sense of family or something. I get job offers in other states in the US and don't go nevermind another country.

80% of the Chinese students surveyed in China recently said they suffer from social anxiety and prefer a life of isolation. How do you expect first generation Chinese immigrants to feel they belong when they don't network? The problem originates in China not the US.

Korean, Filipino and Vietnamese are friendly. Chinese and Japanese I met are not.

Irony is US was created by people who packed their bags and moved to work there.

You must be an idiot. Dubai is 100x better compared to your gloomy little town outside of Boston.

LOL!

Why don't you move there!

Your answer just confirms my Chinese failed state suspicions if moving to another country is actually on your mind as a possible option.

If it is considered an option to you then you have a failed state. Your country has let you down if thoughts of moving to another country to work are actually crossing your mind.

Plus in Dubai you actually drink the water out of the tap..that probably would make your bucket list.

Damn that is a generalization and a half! isn't it human nature to try out new things or new lifestyle once in a while if given the ideal opportunity? money is definitely one of the reasons, but what about pushing boundaries or self-fulfillment?

I haven't met anyone who is planning to, or excited about spending their whole life where they grew up.. you are the odd ball here man.
