Indian Air Force Chief Arup Raha To Take Maiden Flight In Tejas

Either you are naïve or you don't know what is happening around. The trainer jet is a requirement for other countries for export. Also since it is being developed in future it will also be used for Reconnaissance purpose. But mind you we are happy that India is also making progress.
 
Our Air Marshal has flown the JF-17 and by the way JF-17 was upto the mark with all our Fighters.
This is a thread about LCA no need to bring in JF-17 and your inferiority complex.

Trainer version was not required unlike the great TEJAS for which initially trainer is built for Indian Pilots to get accustomed to.
It is preference of airforce to go for trainer or not, in the case of PAF they preferred to go single first as they were short of money which is a sensible move.

Tejas, which was several years in the making, has now caught the attention of foreign buyers.

NEW DELHI: IAF chief Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha will tomorrow take his maiden flight in India's indigenous light combat aircraft, Tejas, and review the development so far.

Marshal Raha will also inaugurate the LCA paint hangar in Bengaluru and visit the production line of the aircraft. The Indian Air Force (IAF) has given an order of 120 Tejas, with 100 of them being anupgraded version.

He will fly a sortie in a Tejas trainer aircraft which is a two seater, defence sources said.

He will also visit the hangar where the Mirage 2000 is being upgraded.

IAF chief Air Marshal Arup Raha along with taking his maiden flight in Tejas, he will also inaugurate the LCA paint hangar in Bengaluru.

Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL), manufacturer of Tejas, is likely to hand over the fourth aircraft to IAF by June end.


The four aircraft will makeup for the first squadron of IAF which will be used for training and familarisation.

Rather than waiting for LAC Mk II, IAF had decided to go in with an upgraded version of the existing Tejas with over 40 modifications.

IAF currently plans to acquire 120 Tejas aircraft, with 100 of these having major modifications. The force wants Active Electrically Scanned Array (AESA) Radar, Unified Electronic Warfare (EW) Suite, mid-air refueling capacity and beyond the vision range missiles.

As per the production plan, six aircraft will be made this year (2015-16) and HAL will subsequently scale it up to eight and 16 aircraft per year.

Upgraded version of Tejas will cost betweenRs.275 crore andRs.300 crore.

Tejas, which was several years in the making, has now caught the attention of foreign buyers, with Sri Lanka and Egypt evincing interest in the fighter jet.

Sri Lanka had recently rejected Pakistan's JF-17 aircraft built with Chinese help, while Egypt had last year signed a contract for 24 French-made Rafale fighter jets.

The two countries are interested in the current version of Tejas and not the upgraded one which will be rolled out later.

It's radar itself can't see beyond 60-80kms.. Unless you solved it's issues
The Quartz crystal radomes have been intergrated now- the range issue has been addressed for the MMRs.

And even the 1 or 2 in "service" are actually there for testing and working out the issues it faces.
4 wil be delivered to the IAF by the end of July 2016, the remaining 16 by the end of 2018 and from there 16 LCA MK.1A/year will be churned out.

What a way to spin mediocrity.

The JF-17 is one of the few non-5th gen fighters to not have a two seat/trainer variant, there is no reason other than to save costs and developmental time spans that a two seat/trainer variant hasn't been developed to date. Of course, what this means is that you won't be able to use the JF-17 in an OCU role and that all fighters flying the JF-17 will have to have fighter expereince in other types thereby severely limiting the PAF's training and operational capacity as a whole. I am also yet to see a full mission simulator for the JF-17 so I don't really understand why you are bragging about the JF-17 not needing a two seat version, this to me is a HUGE drawback so no wonder such a variant is being created for export customers- this is a basic requirement realy. I find it pretty unbeleivable that a professional airforce like the PAF was willing to induct a type such as this without such a variant.

For all those criticising the LCA and comparing it to the mighty JF-17 remember the ADA has developed 4 variants (Single seat AF, twin seat AF, single seat Navy, twin seat Navy) of the LCA in the same time the JF-17's sole variant was devloped/inducted. In 2018 the LCA Mk.1A will be far more capable and offer more features than the proposed JF-17 BLK.3.

Still I would say that you are naïve in not understanding the development of an airplane. Take f-35 no trainer is there yet. When you so called develop an indigenous product then u don't need to extra train yourself. Because your pilots have already flown that plane in it's testing mode and they are being briefed up all the time of their technical aspects and secondly please Pakistan Air force pilots are trained at par the highest training level which even west acknowledges. Therefore, if you wish to brag then please first make operational squadrons and have this plane running all time then we will discuss which is better or worse.
