Three men were sentenced to death Friday for the gang rapes of two women in the Indian city of Mumbai last year, public prosecutor Ujjwal Nikam said.

The men -- Vijay Jadhav, Mohammad Qasim and Salim Ansari -- were sentenced to die under an amended Indian law that sets death as the maximum sentence if convicted of more than one sexual assault, according to Nikam. this is important judgement,because after amendment this is first judgement ..........still lots of civil society is not advocating death sentence in rape case.....they think murder case will increase........

we are against Capital punishment for stupid reasons like Blasphemy , when it comes to Rapes how ever i would not mind a punishment where they are hanged by their balls....

The legislation for sexual violence was amended to allow the Death Penalty for conviction of multiple rapes.

Otherwise, the Death Penalty is reserved for cases that meets the crtieria of shocking the public conscience.

So far, in the last decade, only a handful have been hung.
