no i dont buy their arguement that RAW is fuelling insurgency in pakistan but still for sake of "building trust" i would support reducing consulates in afghanistan or reducing the strengths of personnel in those consulates.

For the sake of "building trust" with Pakistan perhaps we should also allow them to take control of Kashmir and Hyderabad and also help them reclaim their lost territory of East Pakistan ? It is Indians like you who foolishly believe that by appeasing the Pakistanis you will achieve peace. Your memory is way too limited. Every time you give them an inch they demand a metre.

on topic, i dont think indian generals are powerfull enough to guide indian policy towards pakistan.

i think RAW chief and NSA's opinions carry more weightage.

Actually in case of Kashmir , I do think the COAS' opinion carries some weightage. Not a veto wielding power but a weightage nonetheless.

Lets talk Karthic. While I understand & agree with your reasons for not talking, the only way to discuss matters other than Kashmir is by pretending to also include Kashmir in the talks. We both know & I suspect the Pakistanis do too, Kashmir is not something that will be easily solved and that any solution will be along the common sense idea of not drawing new borders i.e. greater autonomy & the like. Who Knows? Like our friend Imran Khan here hopes, we might actually have some movement in issues like trade. Surely Pakistan too realises that it is not exactly in an advantageous position, internally or externally and might seriously look at burying differences with India. Probably unlikely yet but who knows? We need to keep giving them the opening to take that option.

The past record doesn't give you too much optimism..Or does it ?

I am just saying the time is not right, right now. The trust deficit needs to be reduced and the first step logically ought to come from Pakistan, not India.

Wow look at the love from the other side. Seriously guys your PM has just said so so in order to convince the international community that India is willing to sit down and talk. The reason behind for this is because US is engaged in Afghanistan and does not want Pakistan to concentrate else where as long as US is there. After wards who knows. Neither is India loosing any territory nor Pakistan gaining any. As far as some members raising why India has changed its stance..............well this is called diplomacy.There is so such thing as absolute.

Officially --- it is ours under the illegal occupation of Pakistan as repeated in various international organisations.

But realistically its a part of Pakistan and we dont hope in getting it back.
