thanks a lot.. ( I did figure it out though ).. that shows the negative growth by India twice in the later half of the past century. notice the fall immediately after the war years (1965 was most noticeable)..

thanks for pointing it out sliver (no sarcasm intended)
our license raj policies indeed had a terrible impact on our economy but gladly those are resting in the pages of history. We are now becoming more capitalistic and our growth numbers are dependent on global factors rather than minor internal issues.
Even a peripheral war such as kargil will not significantly affect the path of Indian economy as evidenced by more than 8% growth in 1999.

It clearly shows the benefit of free market economy from 1991. India was trapped in socialism for 40 years post independence and had it not for the bold steps of Manmohan in 1991 things would be very different today.

did you see the negative spike in 1979?

That's exactly the point. Somehow these guys have got the idea that Pakistan's GDP growth rate has been inscribed in the stone for next 10-30 years. Which is obviously not true.

There is something called as "Average growth rate"..When somebody says that a country is predicted to grow by 10 % for next decade, then he is pointing at the average growth rate ie some years it might grow by 12 % other years it might grow by 8%, such that average remains 10 %...Obviously these are not engrave in stone , but educated guesses if you might, derived by scientific methods and past experiences.

From wiki:

The Indo-Pakistani War of 1965 led the US and other countries friendly towards Pakistan to withdraw foreign aid to India, which further necessitated devaluation. Defence spending in 1965/1966 was 24.06% of total expenditure, the highest in the period from 1965 to 1989. This, accompanied by the drought of 1965/1966, led to a severe devaluation of the rupee. Current GDP per capita grew 33% in the Sixties reaching a peak growth of 142% in the Seventies, decelerating sharply back to 41% in the Eighties and 20% in the Nineties.

^^As I said before India has upward curve in its poverty alleviation but Pakistan is going in reverse direction, even today 70% of your population is under UN defined poverty level and things are getting worse.
