I’m curious what people here think about Nader Shah's invasion of India and sacking of Delhi. I read an interesting theory that said that if it wasn’t for Nader Shah's invasion of India and sacking of Delhi exposing just how weak India was, Europe would never have colonized India. Mughals and Muhammad Shah turned out to be no match for the Afsharid Army of Nader Shah and the Persians. It was in fact the Persians who first made the British aware just how easy it was to conquer India.

What ever the case maybe, my ancestors comes from Central Asia, North which came and swept India, my family lived in Pak-pattan, moved to Lahore centuries ago, and now as Punjabis love our Pakistan. We ruled over entire India for 1000 years, except some independent states of other religions, it was all under Islamic influence.

And I moved to UK, and for me, to and fro from Pakistan is regular.

You do realise your post has nothing to do with the OP.

When mughals were strong during times of shah jahan and aurengzeb it was back and forth between. Safavids and mughals

The British were involved in sub-continental affairs long before Nader Shah.

I will explain you, it was more of internal hatred as per my family tradition Nader Shah came from Iran, and our ancestor were now in Turkmenistan, who actually came from arab lands as merchants, and converted to Islam. Nadir Shah though arguably had the most powerful empire in the world, but he was atrocious.

Basically this thing explain our family ancestral hatred towards Nader Shah. The Safavids, Nader was probably brought up as a Shi'a but later espoused the Sunni faith as he gained power and began to push into the Ottoman Empire. He believed that Safavid Shi'ism had intensified the conflict with the Sunni Ottoman Empire. His army was a mix of Shi'a and Sunni (with a notable minority of Christians) and included his own Qizilbash as well as Uzbeks, Afghans, Christian Georgians and Armenians, and others. He wanted Iran to adopt a form of religion that would be more acceptable to Sunnis and suggested that Iran adopt a form of Shi'ism he called "Ja'fari", in honour of the sixth Shi'a imam Ja'far al-Sadiq.

For us he was a foreigner, but in arguably India it was considered the same invader when he conquered Kandahar and later got hold of an eye on the Indian Mughal Empire, which than Nader's forces later captured Ghazni, Kabul, Peshawar, Sindh and Lahore.

Collectively Muslims, Shia, Sunni, etc etc, types ruled over North Central Asian States and India, calling Islamic Muslim rulers but they had internal adversaries as well.

it seems like thre was more to british colonialism of india than mere excuse of nadir shah, reminding how bengal was the first state to be colonised by the british.

Eh, for much of history the sub-continent has been way too big for most to even dream of conquering large portions of it.

Colonisation was a slow process and did not occur suddenly. The brits along with others had their eyes on india before nadir shah. If anything, their colonisation was slow to the west because of Durranis as they didnt want to take on a strong durrani empire.
