India wants infertile Pakistan: PEW

War between Pakistan and India on the issue of water resources seems inevitable as serious efforts by Islamabad to increase trade between the two countries had not helped New Delhi to change its policy of water aggression, said PEW President Dr Murtaza Mughal.

Look at the logic here. What he is actually saying here is that "Pakistan's opening up for bilateral trade with India" is some kind of big favor to India and Pakistan will suffer great loss if it indulged in trade with India.

As if it's not Pakistan's market but China's or Europe's or US's. He completely fails to realize the fact that the main motivation behind the pushing of this trade freedom is to intertwine both the economies so as to reduce the chances of wars between these two nations. On the contrary, the trade will actually benefit Pakistan and Pakistanis more, though it will not be in the interest of Pakistani Army at all.

But what does it matter, those who are rich will always find a way, while the poor will dole out their share of bread to support the budgets of the Army. Case in point - MFN or not, the richest man in Pakistan - that Mansha guy - is getting even richer by the day by exporting cement to India. But no, the smaller businesses have no right to avail this route for profits!

The issue of water aggression cannot be resolved through enhanced trade or negotiations as India may not like to settle the dispute except a full scale armed conflict with global implications, he observed.

Again such a mind boggling statement from the President of Pakistan Economy Watch. Trade between both the countries may actually be the only route to solve the water problems in Pakistan. When Indians begin to buy raw material from Pakistan at cheaper rates, the lobby of Indian businessmen will eventually come out to advocate release of greater volume of water whenever there is a chance of drought in Pakistan, to sustain the small businesses in Pakistan that will be the source of raw material for Indians. And the Pakistani businessmen will be the ones to advocate for better storage facilities and management of water within Pakistan - Bilateral trade will actually help solve the water problem in Pakistan!

Dr Murtaza Mughal said all the civilian and military governments of Pakistan had failed to ensure water security or advocate India to change its long-term policy of destroying Pakistan through water hostilities. India will continue to build dams violating the Indus Water Treaty while majority of international forums would continue to support New Delhi which had left Pakistan will little options, he said.

If Indians really wanted to "punish" Pakistan by holding the waters of the rivers, it would have been done already during the 3 wars of 1965, 1971, and 1999. But not once did India block Pakistan's water - even in times of full scale war! And strangest part - if India has really violated the Indus Water Treaty, even once, why doesn't Mr. Murtaza Mughal himself go to the Hague and file a case of violation of treaty against the Indians? India did not violate the treaty even when Pakistan violated the Simla agreement and attacked India in Kargil. But for this man, mentioning such a thing would be blasphemy.

Presently (Population: 180 million) Pakistan could store 10 million acre feet of water while it had storage capacity of 16 million acre feet of water some 38 years ago (Population: 70 million). According to a report of World Bank, water scarcity became a threat in Pakistan some 11 years ago as per capita water availability was around half of the accepted international level.

So in the end, the data speaks for itself. Mr. Mughal should use a little common sense and notice that...

Population of Pakistan 38 years ago: 70 million.

Storage capacity: 16 million acre feet.

Population of Pakistan today: 180 million (260% increase)

Storage capacity today: 10 million acre feet. (60% decrease)

Can this President of the Pakistan Economy Watch really not see what is happening here?

Ab Pakistan ne jab storage facility pe dhyan nahi diya, to ye bhi India ki conspiracy ho gayi?

...why would they do that.......they would bash India instead.......don't forget you're talking to Pakistanis...

If its a matter of our survival, would you risk yours?
tech is improving
why not develop a mechanism to convert the water from ocean for domestic and drinking usage
the tech is already available.........

you are only thinking about Pak and asking for a nuke war
India is even a bigger country, even we need water
we arent saying we will china even brahmaputra is blocked

secondly............Pakistan wont survive a full scale war.......
but India will..........so think something constructive.........

Man.... I have already mentioned it many times. This is part of our OPERATION PYAASA PAKISTAN by RAW.

Now repeat after me: OPERATION PYAASA PAKISTAN. Say it 10 times. It will spare many future threads.

Instead of lamenting of what India does ' not do', it would be worthwhile for Pak to focus on what it should do.

For a start why is fresh water being allowed to flow into the Arabian Sea in such abundance ?

Whats stopping Pk from making its dams and re lining its canals to prevent seepage of water ?

International Tribunal do consider all the affects of the dams that are being constructed on the rivers.

India also has river basin and based on the river basin the percentage of water is allocated between two regions.

Pakistan is always cautious when it deals with India , But the phenomenon of Water shortage that is happening in Pakistan is because of various factors like population increase, migration of people to cities, poor water management, etc...etc...

Because none of that figures in their national priorities. Building dams and powerplants and schools takes a backseat compared to jihading in Kashmir, jihading in Afghanistan, jihading in Syria, jihading among themselves, singing "death to america" or "death to India" (as you can see on this very thread).

No power? Death to the USA!
No water? Death to India!
Earthquake? Death to Israel!
Floods? Death to kafirs!

But building ducts or dams to judiciously use water? Nah, who has time for all that?

Point is while we are pointing fingers at others, what have we done to secure our water. The nation that cannot unite even on building a God Damn Dam like Kalabagh, they are bound to doom. Every year the water is wasted in form of floods and thousands gets misplaced and killed, yet all we are interested is in a bloody cricket match and thats it. Put your own house in order before accusing others of destroying you.
You have gained so much respect in my eyes!! Better advice then others who are talking about nuking each other. They don't know if we destroyed each other for this water..It won't be in use for mankind at all. So what r we going to fight for??

Well thats the problem..... for every problem they face they have some one to blame..... I remember reading some article (written by a pakistani author) which clearly states of lack of focus in reducing the wastage..... But when you have india in your neighborhood all you need to do is blame it on to them....

I remember India used to do that a lot before....for most of our problems or inefficiencies we used to blame pakistan or someone else.... but in last 5 years to a large extent we have reduced blaming others.... and one very important change in our attitude is, we started blaming ourselves for our problems, be it the government, NGO or the population (you can call it politics if want to )

I dont understand when they have lost their case in an independent court, why do they behave like a cry baby??? there must be some reason right? Why they lost the case??? there could be 2 reasons.....
1) There is no stealing as alleged..
2) They do not know how to fight a case

In both case how can you blame India? But then you want to blame something on Then Be our Guest.....

Oh yeah i have seen few nukers here.... Yes there are chances of disagreement in water management..... We have issues with China and Bengladesh..... There is a way to handle issues, If nukes are going to solve your problems then you might have used it long back......

By the way i remember reading a very good thread on nuclear explosion in PDF.... I suggest reading them (to all those nuke fans)

issue is not drinking water its agri water
Pakistan wont survive if india blocks the remaining two rivers, so pakistan wont risk much but india will
India is bigger is no excuse for blocking natural resources and diverting their natural flow, everyone owns rivers not just india.

Help yourselves, we are not interested.

we arent asking for help kadu. we dont ask havent you learned from history, we just do it, good or bad but we do.
