LOL. This is more like the George Washington class build in 1957. And that is being generous. India is the first country in the world to build a SSBN before a SSN. So India has zero nuclear sub construction experience prior to build this sub.

Nuclear submarines are and have been expensive averaging at-least over $1 billion per submarine.

Hence India being a poor nation, has only chosen to build them as of 1980s for second strike purpose , which is a necessity given India's no first use policy.

SSN in India's or any poor nation's case would be a vanity project as it gives only the ability to send submarines over long range operations at exorbitant cost.

Hence only developed and wealthy nations like US, USSR, UK, France with global naval ambitions have invested in them.

But Unlike India, China in 1970s was a very wealthy nation with a booming economy thanks to Great Leap.

Hence, Despite 30-40 million deaths due to starvation China could afford to invest in expensive vanity projects like Han class SSN as they were necessary for future Chinese imperialistic naval ambitions of nine-dashed line and raise moral of the public.

At least copying requires you to dissect the technology, you are basically getting spoon fed like a baby and even then you can fck up the reactor. What makes you think the reactor is not noisy?

No news is probably good news. As far as I can tell, the Arihant seems operational but limited to testing technologies for future SSBNs and SSNs. Hence the size. But despite the first attempt, its not a bad sub, for one its not radiating the crew as far as we know or leaking radiation at the docks. But the Indian navy still has a long way to go to testing technology and operations associated with nuclear subs most importantly damage control, and rescuing crew.

More like late 80's Soviet subs with extra features and short comings. For one India does not have the setup USN and Red Navy has to form a deterrent yet. A decade away before USN takes them seriously even in IOR. This was why the Red navy showed up in India with a nuclear sub rescue boat. Not sure if they are still deployed.

No. Even the next SSBN class(5th boat) will be at least 30 percentage less in specifications, and I am not even talking about technological gap.

INS Arighat has 8 launch tubes which carry 24 K-15 SLBMs or 8 K-4 SLBMs.
Where as Ohio class carries 24 Trident SLBMs.



Bull$hit ..India has built German HDW and French Scorpene subs which diesel subs but reactor miniaturization for Arihant class was done by Russians.

She has operated Soviet Charlie class nuclear sub and currently operates Russian Akula II class SSN.

No it has same VLS tube as in Arihant.

I suspect the Indian 2nd SSBN launch is half crook. That is why they keep quiet. Its not even 30% near operation but the India defense industries need some accountability to brag about their achievement to get more funding by launching it.

Just like the half crooked INS Vikrat with island less launched while its many years away from operation.

Agree. Indian military equipment serve to brag so its leaders can win elections. It’s not created for actual war. All equipments for actual war are imported ones. That is why India need single engine aircraft as Tejas turn out to be a parade plane.
