Pakistan accuses India of border fire, several wounded 1 hr 36 mins ago

ISLAMABAD (Reuters) – Indian forces have fired across the border in Pakistan, wounding a soldier and several villagers, a Pakistani paramilitary spokesman said on Wednesday.

The neighbours, in the past, exchanged almost daily firing across what is known as the Line of Control separating the two armies in Kashmir. But the latest incident occured across the border in the Sialkot sector, in Pakistan's Punjab province, which is considered rare.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Rangers said Indian border security forces fired automatic weapons and mortar bombs at a village along the Sialkot working boundary, north of the Pakistani city of Lahore.

"First they fired yesterday morning and then again in the evening and the firing continued sporadically throughout the night until Wednesday morning," said Nadeem Raza.

"One of our soldiers and several villagers have been wounded in the Indian firing."

There was no immediate comment from New Delhi.

The flare-up comes ahead of Foreign Minister S.M. Krishna's trip to Pakistan next week to meet with his counterpart in a renewed bid to normalise ties.

Relations between the neighbours, who have fought three wars since 1947, went into a freeze after Pakistan-based militants attacked Mumbai in 2008, killing 166 people.

A late 2003 ceasefire between the two sides across the ceasefire line in Kashmir has largely held although there have been several exchanges of fire over the past year.

Raza said Pakistani forces retaliated after Indian forces "did not respond to the call for a flag-meeting" and continued firing.

India has long accused Pakistan of backing militants fighting Indian security forces in the Himalayan region of Kashmir.

Pakistan supports what it calls a freedom struggle by the people of Kashmir against what it sees as the brutal and illegitimate Indian occupation of the region.

But it denies arming the guerrillas, who have been fighting Indian forces since 1989.

Two killed as Indo-Pak border forces trade fire

* Pakistan Rangers spokesman says one soldier, several villagers injured

ISLAMABAD: An exchange of fire at the India-Pakistan border at Sialkot has killed two Indian troops and injured a Pakistani soldier and several villagers, officials said on Wednesday.

The neighbours have in the past exchanged almost daily fire across what is known as the Line of Control separating the two armies in Kashmir, but the latest incident occurred in the Sialkot sector, which rarely experiences trouble.

A spokesman for the Pakistan Rangers said the Indian Border Security Force fired automatic weapons and mortars at a village along the Sialkot working boundary.

“First they fired yesterday morning and then again in the evening, and the firing continued sporadically throughout the night until Wednesday morning,” said Nadeem Raza.

“One of our soldiers and several villagers have been injured in the Indian firing,” he said.

A senior Indian border official confirmed the incident but said Indian forces retaliated for “unprovoked firing” from the Pakistani side.

“We were facing unprovoked firing from the Pakistani side for the last two days, resulting in the death of two of our men. We were forced to retaliate,” said K Srinivasan. “The firing was precise, but at this stage we cannot say for sure who fired at us,” he added.

Reports said a flag meeting had been convened to discuss the latest disturbance. reuters

Indian army alleges ceasefire violation

Pakistan denies knowledge of protest

The Indian Army allegedly lodged a strong protest with the Pakistan army over recent ceasefire violations along the LoC Poonch sector, the Press Trust of India reported on Sunday.

The news agency quoted a senior army officer as saying: “We have held a flag meeting along Line of Control (LoC) at a forward post in Poonch sector and lodged a strong protest over the ceasefire violation and cross-border firing.”

The meeting was reported to have been held to protest against an incident that allegedly took place on the night between July 15 and 16.

Director General of the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Major General Athar Abbas told The Express Tribune he did not have any knowledge of the flag meeting and the protest.

Cross-border firing has intensified in recent weeks, even in areas where such incidents are infrequent.

On June 21, Indian forces opened fire in the Chaprar sector in Sialkot early on Monday, killing a woman and seriously injuring a young girl. On June 20, Indian forces had alleged that two civilian porters working for the Indian army were killed and two soldiers injured in unprovoked firing by Pakistani troops along the LoC. India also alleged that Pakistani troops had fired at and killed a BDF trooper on July 5.

The allegations come in the wake of the foreign-minister level talks between Pakistan and India. Indian External Affairs Minister S M Krishna arrived in Pakistan on July 14 to hold talks with Pakistani counterpart Shah Mahmood Qureshi. Qureshi later said the Indian delegation had been ‘selective’ about the issues they chose to discuss.

why are they complainig like sissies....If a BSF trooper is killed then payback in the same coin.Do they not have guns..?

. .
I sometimes wonder the psyche of a Pakistani mind. What are these guys taught or why is there a culture of conspiracy theories or why do these guys have a beleif different from the entire world.

From Good and bad taliban to 26/11 being a staged attack. From TTP are terrorists and LeT are not to Hafiz Saeed being the next light... God knows what they are made of.

The whole world is convinced that Pakistan is a terrorist hub . India hasnt ever being branded as such. In 1971, US and western media was on your side yet one doesnt find any evidence when India is being likened to a Terrorist state .

These guys just dont want to open their eyes. Data is in front of them. Just analyse the reports throughout the world. How can they be wrong and you ( a minority with a bias) be right.

Kya poori duniya ko mazza aata hai Pakistan ko badnaam karne main?

No one has called Pakistan a terrorist state besides your lovely country. I dont know why india isnt called one since its commiting terrorism in Kashmir currently and you started the whole supporting terrorists in 1971...anyways I know better to argue with indians. This is my last comment to you, since obviously you and your buddies are here to troll

Pak troops violate ceasefire again along LoC in Poonch

Violating the ceasefire once again, Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing from across the Line of Control (LoC) on a forward Indian post in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir but there was no casualty or injury, defence sources said here.

The Pakistani troops opened fire from its Chua Post from 0630 hours and continued intermittent firing on Chajaman post in Krishna Ghati sector in Poonch district for about one hour, they said.

Indian troops exercised restraint and did not retaliate, the sources said.

This is the tenth ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops along J&K border during July.
