India needs 18 submarines to deal with Pakistan, China

This is fact, we have capability to hit any point in india. So do not ignore facts.
You keep on working on barak system.we are doing our counter measures.:smokin:

keep working dude.....once our BMD is operational, all your nukes will count for nothing.....and everyone knows who will win a conventional war....even now we have some SR-300 to intercept nuke missiles....

well if india have 50 ships still pakistan dont have to worry with good subs and with babur cruise missile if get first hit on all your ships than sir it is bye bye to all indian ships

too many if's in your statement...

.
In every kinda scenario you guys bringing JF-17. Do you guys have naval version JF-17 in PN????

PN and PAF are two different armed forces. If you want to bring JF-17 PAF need to agree for that. Usually naval blockade will occur in full scale war. Whereas PAF will be busy with IAF. Two front war is not possible. China is not stupid to get crash its economic growth by going war with India.War between countries is not like street fights. Our naval aviation wing is different from IAF.

You can't fire 50 missiles at a time. we don't line up our ship to become target. For your sub's We inducted P8-I. lol funny. Now degrade P8- I capabilities.

Is Pakistan one of Chinese province. Common buddy don't be speculated. you r just entertaining us by Adding both Chinese and Pakistan. Chinese not even interested to go war with Vietnam. They wanted business.
Read the title of thread before posting idiotic comments ... We are comparing the strength of IN against both of its enemies here just FYI

You guys have so much confidence in your not-yet-operational BMD system which even US with all its advanced tech doesn't have ... Even they dont assume this best case scenario ... and even if it so , do you think Pakistan will be sitting idle all this time ? Some new missile are still due remember :azn: ... BTW , what year is the Indian BMD going operational ?

Yes , we do have naval air wing of PN which currently uses Mirage with Exocets ... In the future its role will be taken over by JFT with C802A and C803 ...

Well We have mig-29 for that role, by 2016 we will have 3 AC. which means we will greater combat power. We have 3 -D coast line to secure it we have coast guard. IAC-1 and IAC-2 will equip with mostly Rafale/ Typhoon/ F-35( just possibilities).

Finally: We don't need a war to test our capacity. Just hope A war will not occur in this decade atleast.

You are comparing our current PN capabilities with Future (2020) IN capabilities.Should I say..its your self-satisfaction.:)

India needs 18 submarines to deal with Pakistan, China
India's submarine fleet is dying of old age, and new boats are not going to arrive in time as it believes it needs at least 18 non-nuclear subs in service to deal with Pakistan and China.

Sindhughosh class submarine: 12 boats, Russian Project 877EM Kilo, commissioned 1986-2000 (age 11-25), all but two refitted at Zvezdochka shipyard 1997-present.

Shishumar class submarine: 4 boats, German Type 209-1500, commissioned 1986-1994 (age 17-25), three refitted and one undergoing refit.

Current Total 16 boats.
Planned 6 boats: Scorpene. Expected commissioning first boat: 2015

What's the problem?

More then half subs cross their age and need to be retire

Yes, 8 Kilo and 4 Type 209 need to be replaced sometime in the not too distant future. But not all at once and the first of 6 Scorpenes will come online around 2015. Further, India issued a request for information for another six submarines in 2011. So my expectation is that all the boats will be replaced. And then there are nuclear boats too.

Meanwhile, don't underestimate the ability of submarines to 'soldier on'. While age and necessity to retire correlate in general, perhaps especially with submarines there are a good number of examples of sub classes that live on much longer than originally designed or intended, today and in the (near) future.

For example:

Spanish navy Galerna (French Agosta) class (1983-1985). To be replaced by new S-80 class per 2015-18

RoC (Taiwan) Hai Lung (Dutch Zwaardvis Mk2) class (1987-88). No replacement expected in the near term Dutch Submarines: The export of the Chien Lung / Hai Lung type submarines to Taiwan

RNthN Walrus class:
"The Walrus-class submarine is the only submarine class currently in operation in the Royal Netherlands Navy. They have been in use since 1990... In 2007, the cabinet approved an upgrade of the four operational vessels and recruitment of additional crew to improve overall operational availability. The upgrades are focussed on near-shore operations and integration with new weapons"

"commissioned 1990-1994... will be refitted/modernized around 2009. AIP will be one of the possible improvements. ... In March 2003 the "U.S. Office of Naval Research" wrote: "The Netherlands is working to extend the life of these ships to 2025" Dutch Submarines: The Walrus (2) submarine class

Challenger (Sjormen) class: first commissioned 1967-68, recommissioned 1997-2001
"In 1995, the RSN acquired a Challenger class (formerly known as Sjöormen class) submarine from the Swedish Navy and another three in 1997, making them Singapore's first underwater platforms."

Archer (Vastergotland) class: first launched 1987-88.
"Singapore's Ministry of Defence (MINDEF) signed an agreement with Kockums for the supply of two Archer class (formerly known as Västergötland class) submarines to the RSN on 4 November 2005. More than 20 years old and previously in reserve with the Swedish Navy, the submarines will be transferred to the RSN on completion of the modernisation and conversion for operation in tropical waters. RSS Archer was launched on 16 June 2009. The Archer class submarines are equipped with an air independent propulsion system. This enables the submarines to have longer submerged endurance and lower noise signature, enhancing the stealth capability of the submarines. The advanced sonar system allows the submarines to detect contacts at a further distance, while the torpedo system has a better target acquisition capability, which allows the submarines to engage contacts at a further range. The Archer class submarines are expected to enter service from 2010 and may replace some of the Challenger class submarines"

"The Södermanland Class diesel-electric submarines are in service with the Swedish Navy. They were originally launched as Västergötland Class submarines between 1987 and 1990... HMS Södermanland and HMS Östergötland... were relaunched as a new class during 2003-2004 after a major refit by Kockums...The class will remain in service until being replaced by the A26 submarines in 2018-19."
