'India may have competitive edge over China'

Although entrepreneurs have highlighted difficulties associated with the institutional organizations for both countries as important barriers to investment, China appears to be lagging behind not only in efficiency but also in lack of competitiveness of its human capital. While India faces its own challenges, mainly related to the financial sector, its strong presence at the high end of the value chain combined with innovations addressed to low-income consumers make it likely to become a more important player in S&T in the coming decades.

This argues well for India in the long term

china funded maoist are trying their best to derail growth in name of poor, tribal, environment etc. etc. Now maoist like medha patkar, swami agnivesh etc. are in delhi with a fragile old men using him as a facade to do their mission at ramlila maidan.

I'm going to quote this for the record. The fact that there are people stupid enough to attribute bottlenecks in India's economic growth on Maoists, deserves to be read for a laugh.

I am not saying that China is not supporting maoists , but we have not got any evidence against them yet , so innocent until proven guilty.

He only said china is trying to derail growth. But yes, we have other bottle necks in economic growth. But you can not deny the fact that China is insecure about India's growth.

China should break up India: Chinese strategist - Rediff.com India News

That story has always been repeated by the Indian media.

But where is the original Chinese article or an English translation of the original article?

It has been asked for hundreds of times on this forum, but all people can find is more Indian media articles, with the same story.

But no source article.

Yep there has to be something that India is ahead in for a comparison to be necessary.

However the whole report suggest a close competition between India and China. China would be bigger than India in terms of numbers; however, the report suggest that democratic dividend, political dispensation, innovative culture could give India an distinct advantage. While China would be better in productivity growth, foreign investments and infrastructure, India would score on democracy, services and IT, Intellectual property rights and institutional stability

I say in many things India is better, no wonder businesses are bullish on India.

Another instances is, according the report, while China produces 70% more engineers, only one in ten is employable, while in India the ratio is one in four; However, both countries should strive for gender equality that could have multiplier effect quality of the human resources

Another good thing for both countries is projected decreasing defence spending

from the same link; it says

An article (in the Chinese language) has appeared in China captioned ‘If China takes a little action, the so-called Great Indian Federation can be broken up’ (Zhong Guo Zhan Lue Gang, www.iiss.cn, Chinese, August 8, 2009).

The report also has a long section on the demographics of China and India + the challenges posed to both.

China's depedency ratio is lower than India's and will continue to be lower until 2030. This directly refutes claims by people saying that India's demographics are an immediate advantage. It's not.

And the India's dependency ratio is partly high because high number of children is bad for dependency ratios.

It concludes by saying

You have been doing quite a bit of research on this India vs China thing :azn: . Good to know you consider India worth this effort . lol

Yes, and where is the original article? Or a translation of it?

Even if they removed it from the original site, there should be hundreds of copies all over the internet, especially for something so controversial.

But there is not even a single copy to be found anywhere?

No, he just did what the rest of the posters here refuse to do.

He actually read the original RAND report that the thread article was based on. (I provided a link earlier).

If the OP had actually read the report, he wouldn't have started this thread based on it.

Very bad CD ,:disagree: why would China like to see India disintegrade ?

I am honestly not even buying that argument.
To be truly on the high end of the value chain, you must have the profit margins to match.
If you are still competing on price, like every single company in India, you are not on the "high end of the value chain". In fact, I would argue Chinese companies like Baidu are higher on the value chain than any Indian company. Of course no Chinese company can compete with the Swiss, but India is hardly Switzerland either.
