'India may have competitive edge over China'

Pakistan economy is slow because we dont believe in call center booms! But rest assured from out export market, you can be confident that whatever we export is of high quality.

The call centres are giving India a trillion dollar economy and 9% economic growth.

All hail the call centre effect. lol

Pakistan could do with some call centres, do you agree?

What major would have happen if you believed in Call center booms, can you care to explain, otherwise it is just a jealous post.

China and India, 2025: A Comparative Assessment | RAND

China and India, the world's two most populous countries, will exercise increasing influence in international affairs in the coming decades, and each country's role on the world stage will be affected by the progress that it makes and by the competition and cooperation that develop between them. This monograph focuses on the progress China and India seem likely to achieve from 2010 through 2025 in four domains: demography, macroeconomics, science and technology, and defense spending and procurement. In each domain, the authors seek answers to these questions: Who is ahead? By how much? and Why? The authors find that India has distinct advantages over China in terms of demographics; that the two countries are surprisingly close in terms of forecasted economic growth, although China's overall economic output is likely to remain significantly higher than India's; and that, for both science and technology and defense spending and procurement, China's current substantial margins over India are likely to rise but by amounts that will vary widely depending on several alternative scenarios. The monograph concludes with implications for policy and for further research.

This is the actual full paper launched by RAND.

Perhaps it is slow because of mindset you carry? Or people just like you are at the helm? For much talk of "eternal friendship", I doubt even Chinese have much confidence in Pakistani economy.

It's not China vs India but what we can learn from our neighbour and what we need to do in order to stay competitive and narrow the margin.

Rediff.com? LOL.

Instead of filtering through the Indian media, why not actually read the RAND report itself?

Your Indian friends on BR forum, who actually read the report, are not very happy with it. In their words, it is: "Too optimistic on panda. Unrealistically pessimistic on India".

Researchers conclude that prospects for India to enhance its competitive position with China are better than China's chances to do the same, because India's political-economic system allows a greater degree of economic freedom and provides an environment more conducive to entrepreneurial, innovative and inventive activity. That flexibility may favor India's position in the long-term competition between the two countries.

While the Chinese public is aging faster than in India, China's population is healthier, has access to a better-developed health care system, and has higher levels of literacy and education, according to the study. Both countries have gender imbalances caused by historical preferences for males, which could generate social pressures resulting from having populations with significantly more men than women in certain parts of the two countries.

Thats why you wont find reports like this in Chinese State media  being state controlled they only print what they want,

China has a definite lead in science/tech and gap is only widening.

Finished reading the summary of the report, will proceed to read the full report but I find the summary to be accurate with my own assessment of things.

Rand report sounds about right. India has missed the mark at many places. Only thing I am happy about is less and less government interference with economy.

Last checked, India fares even lower than Pakistan in ease of doing business.

And after destroying American gainst like Microsoft, HP and Adobe with their dumb labour and outsourcing, i doubt anyone would trust Indian "technological" skills.

Uptil Adobe CS3 which was developed by American and European programmers, it supported a full range of languages including right to left ones..however since Indians have taken over Adobe, it is constantly losing a slack of features to the point that it has turned into a high-tech version of paint.

Adobe Forums: Using FW CS5 with right-to-left

Since HP has started large scale outsourcing to India, it has taken a serious nose dive..to the point that it has been disqualified from Saudi government purchases and now Dell has the exclusive deal..Micheal Dell came to KSA with full vigour to sign it.

HP CEO

Most of the Indian graduates are non-employable as per their own statistics and then is the problem of professionalism..what is indian ego all about??

Wow, a little feature not supported in 'Creative Suite 5' (which BTW is something I use everyday, and it works damn well) and you're looking to spin this off as an "Indian economy will collapse" theory.

Hopeful much?

The report has some nice graphs. Pretty easy to read. It seems the rediff report is taking one section out of context (regards to economic freedom and government control), and extrapolating this point to an advantage for India without regard to majority of the rest of the report and the predictions there.

I recommend people read the report itself, it does not make simplified predictions of India wins or China wins. It's much more in-depth and detailed than that.
