India is not a country of rapists: German Ambassador to India Michael Steiner

I second that, the image of India was already dented before this documentary was released.

Indias image was not dented at all, since most in Europe at least are not generalizing, like Indians are doing here. They are aware about the rape problem, because that is one of the bad things that makes it to the news here and as we all know, because such a problem exists and not because the media is making it up. But at the same time, Indias image had increased many times in the last decade, because of the political stability, because of the economic push, because of the reduction of poverty, because of the elections as I mentioned before, because of increased interest in Bollywood, because of the food and most of all, because of the tourism factor and the Incredible India Campaign!
The awareness of several other sides of India, apart of poverty is growing and growing, not only because the west finally understands that India has more to offer, but also because India began to stand out and went beyond the past of being just a 3rd world country with nukes!
The rape issues might have reduced that to an extend, but then it's on us to change that view again, by openly showing our protest angainst these rapists, against the old mindsets that still differs so much between the genders, against governments that are doing too little to change the problem...

Hiding this problem doesn't make it go away, nor does it make India's image better, so don't focus on the wrong side, just for the sake of blaming somebody, while the focus should be on tackling the problem itself!

@sancho

this "friend" is being a coward and the writer of this article, priyanka rathi ( a female herself ), is a sanghi... look at the words of these two...
While the British filmmaker Leslee Udwin claims that her documentary

Pandey adds that even though things slipped out of the government's hand, it took timely action. "The documentary has dented country's image and questioned law and order situation. The documentary showed that any individual can enter the Central Jail of our country and can interview a criminal," Pandey says.

why don't these two simply say "jyoti singh ( the dead victim ) died of malaria"??

Who is hiding anything? You will see some NGOs will demand not to hang these rapists. Indians stood up and protested for their own girls and women. we don't need Western pat on our back what we are doing and what we ought to do.
As far as this documentary is concerned they violated Indian laws, why was there a need for the producer to undermine Indian judicial process?

If you are even a tad bit intelligent, you will know that what topics will create a sort of sympathy among local populace for the propagandist and self loathing of the intended target at best in PSY-OP's.

LOL why are you so hurt, when I support your logic of fighting BBC documentaries about India! Come on man, we are on the same side now and I'm just following your way of arguing! Who cares about the content of the docu, all that matters is, that they are foreigners and they have no right to make a docu about Indians in anyway!

This is Indian image..

I think he knows more than you... and has suffered enough psychological and mental pressure.

oh, yes.. he knows more than me because he said a line you support.

he is under pressure of modi sarkaar.

does your pakistani wife-to-be read what you write on pdf??

Indians stood up and protested for their own girls and women.

and those particular indians will be angry with the ban and this "friend's" statement.

As far as this documentary is concerned they violated Indian laws, why was there a need for the producer to undermine Indian judicial process?

to show the reality of the culture that the torturer derives his beliefs from.

and what is this expansive word, "judicial process"?? how does it intend to hang the khap panchayats and its supporters??

Who is hiding anything?

The government, by baning a docu or by trying to stop activists from expressing their right of free speech, by making false claims and in both cases, it backfired on Indias image, not because of the content of the docu or the speech, but because it makes Indial look restrictive and backward, instead of open and forward.
Without the ban, the docu wouldn't had got this much attention, especially not in the west. It hardly would had been in the media for days and even yesterday with the global start, it hardly was a big topic.

Indians stood up and protested for their own girls and women.
Which is exactly what the docu showed! How the bulk of India showed their anger, be it students, women and men. It didn't showed any foreigners and their reactions about the rape did it?

As far as this documentary is concerned they violated Indian laws, why was there a need for the producer to undermine Indian judicial process?

They didn't as far as we know yet, since they got the permissions by the home ministry back than. So if at all, you can blaming the ministry for that, but not the producer to get an interview, that actually makes the docu more balanced, rather than one sided. But even I blame the ministry, since it's not good to give the permission, while the case was ongoing, because it can influence the conviction, but that's another issue.

It was a restraining order not a ban, but the documentary maker wanted to make millions by piggybacking this issue. Here is what the Home Minister said on the floor of the parliament.

"Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh informed Parliament that the conditions under which permission had been granted by the government had been violated by the film-maker. He said that permission had been granted for social purposes and the documentary was not to be used for commercial reasons and in the public arena. He added that a restraining order had been obtained against the interview being telecast"
The ban that actually isn’t - The Hindu: Mobile Edition

Come to India, abuse the permission, under mine Indian laws and make millions of a sensitive issue. Big up the fight for gender equality in India. These guys just p!ssed on the Indian laws and judicial system. I hope Udwin get's an Oscar or Bafta for bringing justice to Nirbhiya.

Deception, Lies Behind Making of India’s Daughter -The New Indian Express

This is also a common thing, see what other film makers have done.
Months before Home Ministry ordered a probe against Leslee Udwin for violating rules, a look-out circular was issued against two French filmmakers for shooting Jarwa tribe for a documentary film in October 2014 without permission. Andman Police had filed FIR against French director Alexandre Dereims and producer Claire Beilvert after they came know through a feature on Facebook, promoting a documentary “Organic Jarawa”.

But of course if you think BBC is above the laws of the land then it's okay :D

.
Probably because the brits are christians and Indian christians feel a special affinity to them. Maybe more than they feel towards Hindus.

Maybe because they find more in common with the Brits than they find with other Indians. ?

That is at the root of the matter. Their loyalty towards Christianity than towards Hindus in India.

What's you take? Dehumanization as a precursor to grudging acceptance as equals, such as you guys went through post Tianamen?

They aren't happy to lose their dominant position in the world, especially to countries that are majority non-White and non-Western.

They wouldn't even accept Japan.

Whereas Britain and Australia are good and fine since they are a part of Western civilization.
