আওয়ামী লীগের যুগ্ম সাধারণ সম্পাদক মাহবুব উল আলম হানিফ বলেছেন, জঙ্গিরা সুপরিকল্পিতভাবে পুরোহিত ধর্মযাজক সেবায়েতকে শুধু নয় ঈমামদের কেউ হত্যা করেছে । শোলাকিয়া ঈদগা মাঠে নীরিহ মুসল্লিদের উপরেও হামলা করেছে। তিনি বলেন, তারা ভেবেছিল পুরোহিত, ধর্মযাজক সেবায়েতদের হত্যা করতে পারলে দেশের সব সময়ের বন্ধু রাষ্ট্র ভারতকে এই সরকারের বিরুদ্ধে ক্ষেপিয়ে তোলা সম্ভব হবে।

হানিফ বলেন, এই ষড়যন্ত্রের মধ্য দিয়ে সরকারে পতন ঘটানো যাবে। কিন্তু তারা এটা ভাবেনি ভারতের সঙ্গে বাংলাদেশের সম্পর্ক জন্মের সঙ্গে সম্পর্কিত ।

আজ শুক্রবার দুপুরে রাজধানীর ঢাকেশ্বরী মন্দিরে মহনগর পূজা উদযাপন কমিটির আয়োজিত এক সম্মেলনে তিনি এ কথা বলেন। সম্মেলনের উদ্বোধন করেন ভারতীয় ডেপুটি হাইকমিশনার সন্দীপ মিত্র।

হানিফ বলেন, ভারতের ১৮ হাজার সেনা সদস্য রক্ত দিয়েছে এই দেশের জন্য। তাই ভারতের সঙ্গে বৈরিতার কোনো প্রশ্নই ওঠে না। এবং গতকাল ভারতের প্রধানমন্ত্রী নরেন্দ্র মোদি বলেছেন ‘বিপদের বন্ধুই প্রকৃত বন্ধু’ উল্লেখ করেন তিনি।

অনুষ্ঠানে প্রধান অতিথি হিসেবে বক্তব্য রাখেন আওয়ামী লীগের সভাপতি মন্ডলীর সদস্য শেখ ফজলুল করিম সেলিম। এ সময় অন্যান্যদের মধ্যে উপস্থিত ছিলেন পংকজ দেবনাথ, সুজিত রায় নন্দী, জয়দেব নন্দীসহ হিন্দু সম্প্রদায়ের বিভিন্ন পর্যায়ের নেতারা।
