You have to consider how the Muslims of Bengal suffered under the two parallel oppression. One by British overlords and their protege Hindu Zamindars and gentiles. When the Muslim leaders of Bengal convinced the British to form a separate East Bengal-Assam Province, the elite Hindus undid it.

The result was the formation of All-India Muslim League in Dhaka in 1910. This ML went to the forefront of then politics and separated Pakistan from the mainland India. The Hindu oppression was responsible for the growth of insecurity and insularity of the Muslims of Bengal at that period. You have to blame the Babu Bangalis for this.
