1) Most of the new defense agreements have been with US, France, Israel & UK

Yes we now making deals with western countries but many important weapons are still Russian and have virtually no replacement options in the short term.Eg T-90(less heavier than western counterparts), Brahmos,Talwar class,SU-30MKI,etc.

2) Russia will not support India in a India-China war

That is quite true but an Indo-China war is quite implausible as both countries have quite a bit of work to do to alleviate its citizens living standards to western levels.I don't think leaders in both countries are that impulsive.

3) These agreements would help India get Drones, ABMs, EMALS, Engine tech etc.

Drone technology is only gettable if we sign MCTR but that's a different Pandora's box.In case of ABM,we have our own program running and also acquisition of S-400 is being discussed. Let's see where that goes before committing to THAAD.EMALS is sure to come without any agreement, General Atomics knows that India is its only market after US for its products and I don't think that they would risk losing 3-5 sure contracts.Regarding Engine, that's a technology no one is gonna share with us. SCB,extreme temperature alloys, etc are prized possessions of countries and are seldom shared. So that onus of development is on us.

Russia may not be USSR but they did assist India with SU-30, AC, Brahmos etc.

But due to the state of their economy, their interests are now tied to China than India.

Whats in it for India ? Some technology/equipment deals or pressure on pakistan plus china containment.

Technology/equipment is pure financial deals and no country will give latest tech.
US will always want a chamcha state to do the dirty work, so no long term pressure on pakistan.
Ports or no ports , US will pursue china containment.

US should never be given access to any ports, if it comes to breaking point probably some distant non-mainland port like andamans can be given. We need to keep in mind that where ever US has presence(afghanistan,vietnam,middle east,korea, ukraine...ec) it has been a disaster for host country. US will keep perpetuating the conflict to keep them relevant and hold on to the place. Instead India should seek more trade deals & investment than military agreements.

Expect harassment of Indian women by U.S. soldiers as happens in Japan and South Korea. It might not happen in the few years after setting foot in India, but as they grow in confidence, so will their over-confidence and sense of invulnerability. I've already mentioned this that India should be wary of how far the U.S. incurs in their country. Everything they say and do is for their own express benefit. They don't fight their own wars without having another country as a shield.

U.S has/had a presence in U.K., Germany, Iceland, Baltic Countries etc.
Where is the disaster?

As for Korea, I think the non-presence of the U.S. would have been a disaster.
In Ukraine, the presence of Russia is the big disaster.
In Afghanistan, the presence of Taliban/Al-Quada/ISIS is the disaster.

1) War is overt hence people could see and take emotional stand

2) Signing of agreements is covert. British came to India as East India company not as British Empire. It took many years for the common man to even comprehend what had happened

3) There could be a problem for BJP only if Opposition parties make this a huge emotional issue as the new British East India company returning back to India else common man could care less. BJP is well position to shut the opposition voice with Bose files, National herald case etc. I would be pretty surprised if congress makes even a token gesture. Coming to communists their base is already dead. So no issues..
