Armed forces rescue 3600 civilians in flood-hit Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh

New Delhi, Oct 8 (ANI): The Armed Forces have rescued 3,600 people in the flood-ravaged states of Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
According to a Defence Ministry release, two Army columns each continue flood relief operations in Kurnool and Vijayawada districts of Andhra Pradesh, besides one column has been deployed in Guntur district.
As life returns to normalcy in Karnataka, the Army yesterday withdrew its last column of men, deployed in Karwar district.
The Navy has also withdrawn three teams of its divers from Kurnool district in Karnataka.
But two diving teams continue relief and rescue operations in Uttar Kannada and Karwar districts.
In Andhra Pradesh, five Naval teams remain deployed in Vijayawada district for relief operations.
The Naval teams have rescued 1740 persons and distributed 2000 food and 1000 water packets so far.
The Indian Air Force (IAF) has so far deployed thirty-two aircraft and helicopters, carrying out 340 sorties.
The IAF has delivered over 206 tons of rescue equipment and relief materials, besides airlifting around 1100 people, including doctors, paramedics, rescue teams and flood affected victims, who were rescued. (ANI)

South of india is less prepared to handle flood because most areas it is unexpected.
Where floods/earthquakes are an yearly nuisense in assam where 90% of the districts used to be submerged every year. First the Brahmaputra and then the 40 something rivers originating from himalayas and local hills and merging into brahmaputra. Since people are tired of the incumbent and corrupted govt. They have used their indegenous methods and preparedness since ages to protect themselves.
1. Make river embankments where the river is swallow with hard mud and sand bags reinforced with locally available rocks and bamboo.
2. Almost every household urban or rural in assam grow banaba trees and bamboo. Not only to enjoy the fruit but in case of flash floods to remain floated and reach higher grounds. It takes 3 sticks and 10 minutes to cut banana trees and make a floating boat.
3. build high grain storage place so that food grains and stuff are protected from rodents and floods and that there is enough to eat after floods.
4. always keep emergency box with items like torch, knives, dry foods , water bottles etc.

Heavy floods in southern India have damaged hundreds of millions of dollars worth of crops and could lead to severe food shortages, aid agencies say.
More than 250 people have died and millions have been displaced in the states of Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka after the worst floods in decades.
Authorities in Karnataka have warned against the outbreak of water-borne diseases in camps for flood victims.
The rains came on the back of one of the worst droughts in India.
Relief workers are trying to transport food and medicines to hundreds of thousands of people who remain cut off in their villages by flood waters.
Growing concerns
"There could be 200,000 to 300,000 people in villages where aid has not reached," HV Parashwanath, secretary of Karnataka's disaster monitoring agency told the AFP news agency.
More than a million people are now living in temporary relief camps.
Aid workers are also supplementing the government's efforts.
Cases of villagers suffering from viral fever, diarrhoea and chikungunya, a form of malaria, have been reported from a few flood-affected districts of Karnataka, officials say.
"We have asked everybody to be alert and careful," Karnataka health secretary IR Perumal told BBC.
Teams of doctors have spread out across affected districts, and water-purifying tablets are being distributed, officials say.
"There is a danger of epidemic diseases," Red Cross official NG Narayana said.
But concern is now growing over the long-term impact of the floods.
Only last week the government announced that India had experienced its worst drought in nearly 40 years.
The floods have now dashed any hopes of a recovery in food production, according to World Vision.
"At a national level this will definitely have a say on our food stocks because these places in south India were the ones where there was some evidence of monsoon and summer crop having survived. But now that also is gone at least in Andhra, Karnataka and these districts," Jayakumar Christian, India director for World Vision said.
"Earlier there was migration due to drought and now there is migration due to monsoon," he said.
India's defence ministry said the army had delivered more than 4.5 tonnes of food to survivors who had lost their food stocks.
The rains were blamed by weather experts on a cyclone in the Bay of Bengal.

When other indian tries to show recereation in flood water it goes to show what mentality indians are made of. If you are shamed of indian poor and effected people go to some other country.

Dude in this article it says flood in Bihar lolz..unfortunately for you and BBC there is no flood in Bihar..flood occurred in southern states of Karnataka and AP..BBC is a stupid TV channel who still live in Victorian Era and cooks up stories..so come up with better sources than BBC..also please read the link we provided you in our previous posts about the relief operation before opening your biased mouth again
