Fresh trial of ballistic missile likely next week

Balasore, July 20: Preparations have begun as India plans to conduct a fresh trial of its tactical ballistic missile to build a credible defence shield for intercepting and destroying incoming missiles, informed sources.

The Advanced Air Defence (AAD) missile test is likely to be conducted early next week, sources added.

The trial may be conducted on July 26 or 27.

The test involving coordinated flight of missiles hostile missile and the interceptor missile would involve both the ranges of Interim Test Range Dhamra as well as Chandipur.

During the trial, the interceptor missile would shoot down an incoming `enemy missile' as part of its efforts to build a credible ballistic missile defence shield.

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has built both the missiles, according to sources.

Can I see the pic??? I remember we concluded that the missile launchers on the road of Mumbai was actually AShM.

Its OK mate but I also read every where that India has S-300PMU1/2 but never seen it!!! Thats why asked you.

I think India should pay more attention to SU series instead of patriot. Patriot requires US satellite support and I dont know how USA going to provide that in case of any war which USA opposes.

Advanced Air Defence (AAD)/Ashwin Ballistic Missile Interceptor

Advanced Air Defence (AAD) is an anti-ballistic missile designed to intercept incoming ballistic missiles in endoatmosphere at an altitude of 30 km. AAD is single stage, solid fuelled missile. Guidance is similar to that of PAD: Inertial Navigation System, midcourse updates from ground based radar and active radar homing in terminal phase. It is 7.5 metres tall, weighs around 1.2 tonnes and a diameter of less than 0.5 metres.
On 6 December 2007, AAD successfully intercepted a modified Prithvi-II missile acting as an incoming ballistic missile enemy target. The endo-atmospheric interception was carried out at an altitude of 15 km. The interceptor and all the elements performed in a copy book fashion validating the endo-atmospheric layer of BMD System. The launch was also shown through a video link at control room of DRDO Bhawan, Delhi.

The sequence of events of the test was as follows. At 11 a.m. the Prithvi missile lifted off from Launch Complex III at the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur Orissa. Radars at Konark, Paradip detected the missile and were continuously tracking it. The target information was sent to Mission Control Centre (MCC) for further processing. MCC classifies the target, calcuates the trajectory of the missile and assigns the target to AAD Battery located on Wheeler Island, 70 km across the sea from Chandipur. AAD is launched when Prithvi reaches an apogee of 110 km. AAD with the help of midcourse updates and terminal seeker manoeuvres itself towards the target. AAD makes the direct hit at an altitude of 15 km and at a speed of Mach 4. Radars detected formation of a large number of tracks, signifying that the target had broken into multiple pieces. The thermal cameras located on Wheeler Island also picked up the direct hit through thermal images

Due to two successful interceptor missile tests carried out by India, the scientists have said that the AAD missile could be modified into a new extended range (up to 150km) surface-to-air missile that could be possibly named as ‘Ashvin’.

On 15th March 2010, AAD interceptor missile test from the Orissa coast on Monday failed to materialize as the target missile deviated from its path and plunged into the sea. The AAD missile was to intercept the target at an altitude of 15 to 20 km over the sea. The target, a Prithvi missile, fired at 10:02 am from a mobile launcher from the Integrated Test Range Complex-3 at Chandipur-on-Sea, 15 km from here, deviated from its trajectory after traveling about 11 km and fell into the sea.

Amit , Arrow2 sale has no future , once we got those Green-Pine
We were interested back but now since AAD/PAD is going well , no more Arrow2/THAAD talk .
If you look in full perspective Yanks only offering Pac-2 instead of Thaad/allow Arow2 has helped us more .

Our AAD can do this as well. DRDO made a presentation on it and they are working on anti-CM system based on AAD.

Was it 2004 when Russia only offred S-300 and that time we were also considering Israeli Arrow 2 and also Patriot system.
I mean these systems are in consideration from that time, all the 3...

So I think S-300 and also S-400 was on offer and we rejected both in 2004 considering Akash to be better than these two...

A50 AWACS ( Russian radar only ) , + S300 were offered .

A50 was rejected in technical brief & S300 after trials .

Good step it was ........

Now we have ABM+AKASH , and Phalcon+DRDO-AEW . Cheers

If S-400 is superior why is India evaluating PAC 3? i just dont understand
