To be sure, India already has a container transhipment terminal located a few nautical miles away, run by Dubai’s DP World Ltd at Vallarpadam in Union government-owned Cochin port. But it has not helped India to cut its dependence on neighbouring hub ports since starting operations in February 2011.

I am sceptical about its development. Dubai and Singapore along with Columbo will leave no stone unturned to stop this project....or so I feel.

land acquisition and environmental clearances are still issues of bother, however both projects are progressing very nicely. Infact Mughalsarai and Sonnagar section may start seeing regular movement of train in 2016.
